Tom Cruise watches as Korean calligraphy artist Kim So-young creates a ‘Digger’ artwork in front of him 🎨
Neil Young says Tom Cruise's "Digger" is "the best film I have ever seen."
"None of the reviews I have read describe this film adequately, in my opinion," Young wrote. "They seem to miss the overall effect and most of them are negative. This film lives in a world of art. It is its own best review. Don't read any other reviews and forget this one before you see 'Digger.' It cannot be seen as a Tom Cruise film - that would be misleading. I would describe it as a film of our times... I do not view this film as a commercial venture. Rather it is an artful film of our times. The things that are said in 'Digger' are a direct reflection of today's political and social world. The film is so full of artful expression and radical change ups, that it may be too much to take in for those expecting a commercial film like we are used to today."

Ben Affleck says the "high-school bullying" of Tom Cruise's "Digger" will only lead to Hollywood studios making more "sh*tty" movies.
"Everybody wants to celebrate this bomb as if it’s the most exciting thing to happen. And you think like, it’s a pretty ambitious, interesting movie made by interesting people who have talent. Everybody wants to count the money, what it lost or whatever. To me, I just think, if you punish movies that take risks, guess what you're going to get? A bunch of sh*tty homogenized movies. You cannot do something interesting without taking a big swing. And that means you're going to sometimes look bad." (via Happy Sad Confused)

I only learned about the movie Digger when I saw a news story that it was losing hundreds of millions of dollars. Then I saw people online saying it's actually good. So I went.
It is a very good movie, unlike anything I've seen before. It's a science fiction movie about how humanity will rebuild from civilizational collapse, and the lies we will tell ourselves to deal with it, disguised as a climate change polemic.
It's dark, thoughtful, made with passion by a ton of super-talented people, visually gorgeous, and really under my skin. There is no way anyone could have believed it would be profitable. It's a labor of love that actually works.
If you ever complained about Hollywood only making superhero movies, I sentence you to seeing it. Or Wildwood (by beloved animation studio Laika), coming out soon, which I fear will also be heavily punished for differentness.

Tom Cruise doesn’t have to do any of this. Yet whenever he has a new film opening, he travels the world to meet audiences, spends hours with fans, signs, listens, thanks them, and makes each person feel like their moment matters.
I experienced that kindness myself in Seoul. He held my hand and listened while I spoke, accepted my gift with genuine gratitude, and when he noticed I hadn’t managed to get our photo, he actually came back to make sure I got one. When I asked for a hug, he didn’t hesitate for a second. He’s done this countless times over the decades, but he still treats each fan as if that moment is special to him too.
The best way we can return that appreciation is to show up for his movie. And Digger deserves it. Cruise gives one of the greatest performances of his career, surrounded by a phenomenal ensemble, in a wildly original, bold and beautifully crafted film. Whatever you think of it, this kind of filmmaking deserves the big screen. It may not be there for long, so go see Digger while you can!

Tom Cruise says he doesn’t make movies for opening weekend. His focus is on the evolution & lasting legacy of a film. #Digger is such a remarkable film directed by the brilliant Alejandro G. Iñárritu. Saw it for a 3rd time this weekend; this time in glorious 35mm VistaVision.

Entirely Petty headline. Love it or not. And, yes, I do. The film delivers in scale, ambition and reach at a theatrical screen level. Daring, bold and Cinematically complex. Decidedly a Theatrical experience.
The theater experience won't change your mind on Digger, and the laughs that are there still will be when it hits HBO Max.
