The risk of burnout on a planet that is burning, is high. If we’re not careful, this is where fear-fuelled activism can easily take us. Joy-fuelled activism, on the other hand, enables us to embody sustainability from the inside out. Find out how here 👉🏼climateemergence.co.uk/rest-…

"To refuse to participate in the shaping of our future is to give it up. Do not be misled into passivity either by false security (they don’t mean me) or by despair (there’s nothing we can do). Each of us must find our work and do it." —Audre Lorde

Things I've learned from my rescue dog #1001 What joyful work looks like... Selly loves it when she has a job. She'll find a stick to bring home, or dig with us when we garden, or if we're looking for something she'll helps us 'find' it (Where's your ball/ bone/ toy?!) 1/4

If her pack members weeded as much as she did. If she really deserves her dinner because today she took a rest day. She works for the joy of being part of something. And when she's tired or not in the mood, she has no quarms staying asleep on her bed 🤣 3/4

I wish working in this intuitive, other-centered, connected to our capacities way was more accessible because I truly believe that's what we're wired for. And, not that it's the point, I reckon we'd be far more impactful that way too. 4/4

She is so proud of herself when she helps 🥺 She loves to contribute, to be a part of things, to know what's going on. I do not get a sense in which she wonders if the stick she's brought back today is as big as the one yesterday.... 2/4

Totally think this is true. And the core of why I find some 'hey we can fix this guys!' climate comms irritating. A part of engaging with it for real is being honest about the pain and all that it brings. But then finding the will to keep standing up again.
Climate distress is an entry point into so many other wounds. When we tug that thread we find it's interwoven with our entire being, all we've ever loved, known, desired & lost. That's why there is no 'fix' for eco-anxiety. There is only learning to live lovingly alongside it.

Climate change is real. Burnout is real. We can fight both crises the same way: by committing to address our own burnout, which will give us the energy and the wisdom to address the burnout of the planet. By leading sustainable lives we can create a sustainable planet. #EarthDay
