Padre Pio reportedly saw Judas burning in hell. But what disturbed him most wasn't the flames or the screams. It was something far worse, and it carries a warning every Christian needs to hear. ⤵️
One night, Padre Pio was alone in his room, praying. According to the story, the walls around him suddenly vanished. He saw darkness, fire, and souls crying out in pain. He believed God had allowed him to see hell.
But then he noticed something strange. One man was sitting apart from everyone else. He wasn't screaming. He just sat there with his face in his hands, shaking.
When Padre Pio saw who it was, he was stunned.
It was Judas. The man who sold Jesus for 30 pieces of silver.
But what made this sight so painful wasn't just what Judas had done. It was the terrible sadness that had taken over him.
Judas had walked beside Jesus. He had seen the miracles. He had heard Jesus speak about love and mercy. Yet after betraying Him, Judas was filled with guilt. He couldn't see a way back.
And this is where the story takes a turn.
Judas wasn't the only one who turned his back on Jesus.
Peter did too.
Three times, Peter was asked if he knew Jesus. And three times, he said no.
Think about that. Two men who knew Jesus. Two men who failed Him. Two men who felt the pain of what they had done.
But only one of them came back.
Peter cried over his sin, turned back to God, and accepted His mercy. Jesus forgave him and gave him a mission to care for His Church.
Judas, on the other hand, fell into despair. Scripture tells us he died without returning to Jesus. But the Church does not claim to know for certain where his soul went. Padre Pio's reported remains as a private revelation.
Still, there's something here that should make you think.
How many times have you asked God to forgive you, but deep down, you still believe you're too far gone?
Maybe there's something you've done that nobody knows about. Something you wish you could take back. Something that still hurts when you remember it.
Here's what Peter's story shows us. You can fail Jesus and still come home to Him.
Because someone you know may be quietly carrying the same guilt. And hearing that God's mercy is still within reach could be exactly what they need today.
