Chicago is not dominated by a single industry like these others, but - it’s an actual city (unlike LA) - with world-class food (unlike DC) - representing the 7th largest GDP by city (bigger than SF) - and doesn’t cost $2m to live in a shoebox (unlike NYC) These other cities are great, though.
There are only four tier-1 cities in the 🇺🇸: New York (finance) DC (government) San Francisco (tech) LA (media & entertainment) No other cities are power centers for aspirational talent. Sorry.

Paternity leave is crazy because you can attend a 10:45am matinee and assume you’ll be the only one in the theater, but there’s actually 20 others who showed and you want to know why they’re all here too

This will probably go down as the most technologically impressive product demo in history.

I don’t believe this, but let’s go with it! I do appreciate and respect Mr. Dimon. He’s a great leader in business and society.
"I actually prefer Chicago than New York," says Jamie Dimon of @jpmorgan, bringing down the house an @EconClubChi event at the Sheraton just off Michigan Ave.

I am very uncomfortable about people trying to ascribe religious force or a surrender of human judgment to AI models, and think it is a real safety issue.

Thank God for some sanity on this topic. AI is great for productivity. We will all benefit from that. But it does not - and should not - replace the artist. Art is more than an aesthetic end. It is a shared connection in the form of the physical. This is why people have favorite artists, writers, actors, architects, and designers. They have a truly felt connection to them established via the art.
In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.

As a kid from the Chicago burbs, we used to joke that if the Cubs and White Sox ever faced each other in the World Series, then Hell would freeze over. Well, NOW both teams are in the playoffs + we have the first ever American Pope (from Chicago!) + he is a diehard Sox fan. I am not kidding in the slightest that if this matchup occurs during Leo’s reign it will be some kind of biblically accurate sign of the End Times. Say a prayer and play ball!

Huge opportunity for Pope Leo to parade down the Chicago River on his way to holy mass at the new Sox Stadium. This might break the Cubs World Series attendance record.
Incredible. Imagine what it will be like if/when he comes back to Chicago.

AI has created ~1 million new jobs. This should shock absolutely no one. Every major technological revolution that has preceded AI (steam engine, electricity, automobiles, computers, internet) has enabled people to do more. When you’re able to do more than you could previously, you say, “wow, I’m much more productive these days”. When enough people starting saying that, it shows up in macroeconomic data that our economy is growing. As the economy grows, business owners start making plans to hire more people to their team to take advantage of this newfound productivity and opportunity. Technology -> productivity-> prosperity. Every time.
Our analysis suggests that AI has so far created around 1m new jobs in America. We explain how the technology has created a hiring boom economist.com/finance-and-ec…

Initial impressions of Grok @bot: - WOW, this thing just WORKS. - It's like hiring a motivated college intern who really wants to make an impact vs pontificating with a PhD student who wants to correct my instructions (Claude). - Giving the bots cute little animations, names, and design is clever, ngl.
