Waiting patiently for my Oban fishfood special takeaway pizza to be served a Norwegian walks in, orders, and to sum it up in one line he says "I drive through Scotland and see lots of trees, but none of the houses are built with timber". Nuff said.

Loads of raspberry jam (boiled for as short a time as possible to maintain colour) from just 2 punnets picked yesterday. #jam : the smell of my childhood, and memories of wasps buzzing round the saucer used to test if it was set…

The more I read the news, the more I retreat to the woods. Nature is undemanding, quietly performing complex, beautiful, daily miracles, whether or not we notice. Out here with the trees, there’s an odd reassurance that comes from feeling how insignificant we are, how fleeting.
