Lee Harvey Oswald bought the rifle he used to kill JFK for $18.95 in 1963. After Oswald died his widow sold it for $5,000. That is a 264x return in 24 months. Nothing in my portfolio has ever performed this well. The asset had one owner, one use case, negative brand equity, and appreciated 26,300% because the buyers were not investors, they were historians, morticians of the American century writing checks for a piece of the wound.
There is no framework for this. There is no comp. There is no discounted cash flow that produces $5,000 for a $19 mail-order rifle. The only variable that mattered was that the trigger had been pulled. Every value investor spends his life looking for mispriced assets. Marina Oswald sold the most mispriced asset in American history and she did it in a black dress from a rented room. The 10-K does not cover this. Nothing covers this. Sometimes the market prices in the story, and sometimes the story is a bullet, and the bullet is the entire thesis.
