After the euphoria of Sunday’s marathon today it was the time for sadness as we remembered my lovely sister-in-law Vicky at her very moving funeral. So glad my efforts have raised more than £9000 so far for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.

Very sad about this. Great actor, he was brilliant in many movies but I was blown away by All is Lost a few years ago when he had hardly any lines but delivered an astonishing performance.

The problem facing the PM's critique of Reform is that global bond investors have yet to unwind what broke in the Gilt market in Sept/Oct 2022. They have seen successive Budgets by both Hunt and Reeves since the Mini Budget - and not taken off the additional interest rate on UK debt vs the G7 benchmark. Yes, there are arguments that this might not be entirely a verdict on fiscal unsustainability (active QT is an exercise only being pursued by the BoE), but the idea that fiscal credibility has been restored is at odds with the available data. PM lumping additional WFP/>2 child benefit costs on the Chancellor without details of how it will be funded do not help those optics.
The PM is expected to liken Reform UK leader Nigel Farage to former PM Liz Truss in a speech later today.

Really important, and slightly surprising, piece from the excellent Ambrose Evans-Pritchard. Good antidote to the “feral” narrative favoured by some of his colleagues. We owe it to ourselves, and particularly our kids, not to keep talking the country down. telegraph.co.uk/business/202…

Our approach to La Traviata is a fascinating way of making opera work on film...
It is not live capture, it is a movie.
The story is told intimately and dramatically without losing the heightened theatricality of opera.
See it on Sky Arts on New Year's Day, and via NOW.
