Super happy to have passed my candidacy! Really excited to keep going with this research!
I am 🎉 to share that @JonasEsch is now a PhD Candidate @SFU Earth Science. Jonas is examining ideas about #Arctic landscape change discussed in nature.com/articles/s41467-0…. Many thanks to Gwenn Flowers, Alan Rempel and @PlanetLabCJMJ for supporting Jonas as proposal examiners.

"We see you and bear witness." @TSSU is deeply grateful and honoured that faculty members of SFU's Indigenous Studies program sent this powerful letter to the administration in response to its hiring of a notorious private investigation firm, Lions Gate. #bcpoli

What do Arctic Polygons and streetcars have in common?? Really excited about this essay we wrote bringing Arctic landscapes a bit closer to home.
I am excited to share a collaboration with @ice_rivers_sam and @JonasEsch where we explore conceptual links between how street cars shape the history of cityscapes, and polygons the history of landscapes. The piece was published this week in @ConversationCA @SFUResearch @SFUENV

Let's get this straight @SFU is acknowledging that the cost of living crisis is hurting grad students, but instead of doing their duty as an employer and fixing the systemic issues causing this precarity, they hope a one off payment to a fraction of students will placate us.

Their weak promise to 'set minimum support' for incoming students next year is not enough either. Students now are struggling to pay rent, students now have to use the food bank. Yet the concrete plans presented to admin are continuously ignored.

To be clear, SFU isn't doing this out of the good of their hearts, but because of relentless campaigning of @TSSU and @SFUGradSociety. This proves that together we can win. It's time to keep up the pressure and continue to push for the changes we need. #researchiswork #gradcola

Here are the big takeaways from the @IPCC_CH Synthesis Report released today. First, climate change has already caused widespread and substantial losses to almost every aspect of human life on this planet, and the impacts on future generations depend on the choices we make NOW.

If you ever wondered how we can use numerical modelling to quantify river pollution you're in luck!🏞️✨ My first first-author paper based on my MSci at @ESEImperial with @AlexGLipp and Gareth Roberts has been published and is available via open access: doi.org/10.1016/j.gexplo.202…

I made a summary thread about this project here: In short, we present a new method to use conservative mixing of river sediments to a) generate continuous baseline concentrations for elements and b) quantify excess concentrations for hazardous elements xitter.cf/JonasEsch/status/15342…
🚨In all the fieldwork excitement I forgot to mention my first first-author paper is available in preprint 💥😍 eartharxiv.org/repository/vi… We present a new method to quantify excess heavy metals in river sediments across drainage basins. Our example, the River Clyde near Glasgow🏞️🧵
