While it is great to see that #SocialSecurity is increasing by 8.7%, this is not going to fully cover the costs for older adults. And we know that #seniors are the only group that saw increased poverty in 2021.
There is more work to do.
Older adults on #SocialSecurity will get a much-awaited #CostofLiving increase of 8.7% next year. But is it enough?

The elderindex.org is a great tool to show the real impact of the true cost of #aging across the country! The impact of inflation and increases of #SocialSecurity are not equal everywhere.
"A Social Security check goes farther in some regions than in others. The Elder Index shows that the average benefit covers 90% of living costs in rural WV but just 38% in San Francisco." Thanks @nytimes for shout-out on the Index. @CSDRA_UMB @UMassBoston

The bottom line: the growth of the population is greatly outpacing the dollars and workforce. We need to increase the funding for these vital programs and focus on supporting those who work for and with older adults every day.

To serve this population, the Aging network in this country (established by the #OlderAmericansAct) provides services within local communities. Shown are the current breakdown of some of the key programs.
The growth continues beyond 2030 with @ACLgov estimating there to be 95M 65+ by the year 2060. The growth of the older population (85+) is projected to go from 7M in 2020 to 19M in 2060!
