Half-way through Election Day and turnout is highest in over 50 years. In part driven by the Arab vote. If this continues until 2200 the Netanyahu bloc will shrink further and the hard-right Amcha Yisrael party increasingly unlikely to cross the electoral threshold. OTOH also the Eisenkot bloc will be smaller and the only option for them to form a government will be some kind of deal with the Arab parties.
While great, polling station queues represent a failure of electoral authorities, whether in Israel, the U.S. or anywhere.
I truly think @ElectoralCommUK and a handful of exemplary returning officers should go around the globe to demonstrate genuine access to the franchise.
Great to see two fab MPs Sir @stephenctimms and Dr @PeterPrinsley take part in Mitzvah Day!

Student loans were sold to students as "you'll earn more, so it's only fair you pay some of that back towards your education cost"
Unless changed, of the five plans students are on - three of the repayment thresholds will now be *below* the minimum wage.

Wishing Yair Golan and @DemocratsIL the very best of luck today.
As our sister party and fellow @PA_Solidarity member, I wish you every success in the polls and hope you are forming a new government soon!
Israel deserves a future built on democracy, equality and peace.
Ahead of tomorrow’s elections, the Party of European Socialists (PES) stands in solidarity with The Democrats, our associated member party, and its leader, Yair Golan.
In a joint letter, PES President Stefan Löfven and Secretary General Giacomo Filibeck expressed their support:
“A democratic, liberal and progressive Israel, grounded in the rule of law and respect for the fundamental rights of all its citizens, is essential to the country’s future.”
We share a commitment to social justice and to a just and lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians through a two-state solution, enabling both peoples to live in peace, security and dignity.
“We hope that the elections will mark a step towards renewed confidence in democratic institutions and a more just, inclusive and hopeful future for Israel and all its citizens,” they wrote.
Never take your right to vote for granted.

Stanley asks difficult questions in this piece and no doubt will have caused offence but it is a thought-provoking one I think worth reading.
Voters in Israel have a consequential decision to make tomorrow.
"When I was a boy, and memories of the Holocaust were fresh, creating a homeland for the Jews was still widely regarded as a human-rights cause" says Tim Stanley.
"Now it is eclipsed in the Western imagination by the demand for Palestinian statehood, to which Israel is broadly perceived as an implacable, even cruel opponent"
