Yesterday was an interesting day, seeing my work go viral through piracy. Something I've supported as a way for struggling artists to find an audience outside their reach.
As a result, I sold far more digital-copies than I ever had before. Some further thoughts on the matter:
You can't simultaneously dismiss an entire country as an unprofitable market, refuse to sell your products there, and then claim you're losing sales from people who couldn't legally purchase them to begin with.
if you're going to argue that piracy damages future licensing opportunities Then why are you writing off that market to begin with?
On one hand, you're arguing that the country isn't profitable enough to justify selling your products there. On the other, you're claiming piracy damages future licensing opportunities in that same country. Which is it?

The main issue is that "player expression" isn't something to be forced into your game for its own sake, it simply arises naturally with good design. There's plenty of "expression" to be done in a game like Megaman, shmups, etc despite those games being relatively restrictive
I think about the marketing hype of this when I was a kid and how the game appears in no discussion afterward.
No good game, bad game, or hidden gems talk despite the scope. It was just hyped up, released, then silence for the next 20 years.
Might give it a spin one day.

Anyone who subs to this should be legally banned from online gaming discourse.

It really is that simple. You largely beat piracy by providing something that is more appealing, readily available, and a fair ask. It's literally that cut and dry.

The cherry on top is that the developer of vampire survivors used to work on gambling machines making them as addictive as possible lmao... shameless
(Misread this as Vampire Savior at first and was like "but Huitzel's cool!" ☹️)
I almost put Survivors as low as Genshin and similar non-games. Outlandishly deplorable game design.

The more I look into it, Vampire Survivors might legitimately be the worst game ever made. Philosophically offenseive on the deepest level. Has there ever been something more shameless in its discarding of substance in favor of cheap dopamine gratification?
I see this a lot and I think it's particularly vile to claim this sort of thing about hundreds of people who responded critically.
The most evil thing to assume just because they don't like character designs in a game. It's worse than the "Sephiroth speak" from some gamers.
Some of this is horny which is on brand for artists. The good ones are kinda weird. But some of it is candid admiration of subject's features which is very typical.
Some fascinatingly consistent mentions and some unexpected answers. Crash, Resident Evil, Final Fantasy, and surprisingly a *recent* Pokemon look to be the main ones people are very sure about.
