How do you make a surface crack reveal itself?
In railway wheel manufacturing, some discontinuities can originate at or just below the surface and may not be apparent through visual inspection alone.
One inspection method uses a magnetic field to examine the wheel.
The method is non-destructive, but the principle behind it is fundamentally about how a material responds to magnetisation. At JTRWF, this helps identify surface and near-surface discontinuities that may not be visible during a visual inspection,
before it moves ahead in the manufacturing process.
