My view won’t come as a surprise to my constituents. I feel as strongly about UK membership of the EU in 2026 as I did in 2016 when I resigned from the Shadow Cabinet to vote against the triggering of Article 50 because there was no plan.
*EXCLUSIVE* Former cabinet minister urges Andy Burnham to rejoin the EU Jo Stevens: “I want the UK to be an EU member again I welcome any move that brings our relationship closer so we can properly mitigate the harm Boris Johnson’s bad Brexit deal has inflicted on our country”

The fish rots from the head. When Farage goes on TV to excuse racist attacks on Kemi Badenoch, no wonder his councillors think they can get away with what we've seen on ITV. This is Trump's America, we can't let it become Farage's Britain.
'Do you think it's racist' Reform UK leader Nigel Farage was questioned on #BBCBreakfast after his former senior aide Raheem Kassam called Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch as a 'Nigerian scammer' bbc.co.uk/news/topics/cp07jz…

#bbcbreakfast Brexit has not been “reopened because of Andy Burnham”, but because: - it’s turned out to be a costly mistake - geopolitics shows we can’t rely on the US, but need to work with our neighbours with whom we share common interests - the public has turned against it

Next time Farage could book a phone box, cupboard or just a smaller room.
I’m not sure I’ve seen a Nigel Farage press conference quite this empty

This makes Brexiteers wonderfully cross, but Burnham is spot on. It’s specifically cited by people on the ground. As one 19-year-old man from Sudan in Calais said: “Because of Brexit I believe that once I reach the UK I will be safe at last. No Dublin, no fingerprints any more.”

To everyone getting their knickers in a twist… All because @andyburnham suggested a sensible conversation about freedom of movement …do you perhaps need reminding of this?

It seems to have been a struggle to find volunteers to fill the room for Reform UK’s pre-Budget announcement today. Watch now on @GBNEWS.

Not sure what’s the worse look. Nigel Farage publicly running down his own people. Or Robert Jenrick sycophantically laughing and clapping along as he does it.

Different Leave figures promoted different destinations. Norway-style arrangements were openly discussed, and Norway participates in the Single Market with free movement. So it is historically incorrect to retrospectively compress every Leave vote into: 17.4 million people voted specifically to end freedom of movement. Free movement was a major issue in the 2016 campaign, amplified by Nigel Farage’s notorious “Breaking Point” poster, which was widely condemned as racist. But it was NOT the proposition on the ballot paper. Yesterday @bbclaurak repeatedly treated freedom of movement as the defining core of the 2016 Brexit decision. She explicitly told @AngelaRayner that free movement was “at the heart of the Brexit debate” and repeatedly pressed her on whether it should return. But the actual referendum question asked only whether the UK should remain in or leave the European Union. It did not ask voters whether Britain should: • leave the Single Market • leave the customs union • end freedom of movement • or adopt any particular model of Brexit. Those choices came afterwards. 2016 decided EU membership. It did not write every subsequent interpretation of Brexit permanently into the constitution.
Well with Farage saying "Be like Norway" and one of the leaders of Vote Leave expressly saying that we'd stay in the single market, it's hard to imagine why voters thought we could have a Norway model...

Re-upping this Makerfield focus group from last week in light of headlines around PM re-opening convo on EU. I thought he’d get a Brexit backlash. But my big surprise in group was that nearly all these leave voters had regret & open to PM’s look again m.youtube.com/watch?v=7JdmZQ…
Nearly 100 days into Andy Burnham's premiership, @BethRigby returns to Makerfield - the constituency that propelled him into No 10 - to ask whether the goodwill that carried him to victory is holding. Watch the full report on Sky News: trib.al/ao51rWX

Burnham is teeing it up for a manifesto commitment - and that’s the right way to do it.
BREAKING: "I will never move ahead of the British public when it comes to Brexit." The PM has ruled out re-joining the EU within 'this parliament', but he would 'like' to see the UK return in his lifetime. trib.al/apj80h1 📺 Sky 501

• Right to live, work, study, retire in 30+ countries • Friction-free artist touring
• 40 million pieces of paperwork per annum ditched
• Mutual recognition of qualifications • Reliable multi-annual regional funding
• A say on the rules our exporters already follow
What is it that people imagine they would get out of rejoining the EU that they don't already have?

⏰ For six years since Britain left the Single Market, I’ve been waiting for a Prime Minister prepared to explain why we may have to go back in. Because of food security, energy security, investment, supply chains and national resilience. You cannot build a serious food-security strategy while putting permanent barriers between Britain and its largest neighbouring food market. You cannot talk about sovereignty while becoming more dependent on fragile global supply chains for food, fuel and fertiliser. And you cannot repair Brexit properly while refusing even to discuss the obligations that come with deeper European integration. At last we have a Prime Minister @andyburnham prepared to start giving the country some of the hard truths 👏 This conversation is long overdue.

The honest discussion is FOM would marginally help UK economy but there won't be large EU migration fluxes as happened 20 years ago provided UK enforces EU 3/12 rule only to seek job with no benefits. FOM between similar EU advanced economies won't cause uncontrolled migration. – at Wolfsthal, Österreich

Amazing to think that Matt was once an academic. Is the argument seriously that we should stick with Brexit -and continue to fill 40 million items of customs paperwork per year, costing £billions in lost trade- Because 1 of the 30 countries of the Single Market has riots atm?
Let’s rejoin the European Union 🤡
