Last week, I debuted my new studio: Material Album. The name comes from the idea of "material agency": in any craft, the materials have a voice. Code, culture, language, time, place, they all have a grain. We shape the materials, they shape us back.
Our first project is a physical space. We built a gallery of new and niche technology in the heart of San Francisco. It's called USER EXPERIENCE, presented by @ForerunnerVC
Despite all the uncertainty, this is the most interesting and inspiring moment I've ever seen. But walking around downtown SF, you wouldn't know it.
The optimism, eclecticism, joy and humor of what people are building lives on screens and in feeds. I wanted a home for it on the streetscape of SF, the epicenter of this moment in many ways, and to break up the boring brandscape of the city center.
I wanted to explore the materials of the city, this moment in tech, culture, nostalgia, physical design, and in-person community building, creating a canvas for designing an experience.
