Defensive sectors that supported breadth when $SPX struggled from tech concentration are now retreating, reversing that support. Higher Treasury yields are a big part of the problem in NYSE breadth,

Very nice scoop from @MotherJones, but missing a bit of flavor. Anna Paulina Luna has become Kirill Dmitriev's agent of influence in U.S. Congress and she routinely insists Ukraine is the real obstacle to peace and Russia is the best friend America just hadn't made yet. Bet you'll never guess who her husband's drone company, Nocturnal AI, partners with to boost its bottom line and secure those lucrative Pentagon contracts. Wait for it... motherjones.com/politics/202…

If you don't believe that Trump would interfere with the midterm election results think again. The DOJ filed to block certification of Alaska's Senate results IF the Republican candidate loses. Should be rejected as not an actual case or controversy. cnn.com/2026/10/23/politics/…

Seventy years ago, Europe and the entire world faced a very important and, in many ways, decisive crossroads, when the people of Hungary rose up for freedom and against the Soviet system. The courage and love of freedom shown by Hungarians proved remarkably strong, and they still amaze all of us in Europe. Unfortunately, the world did not make the strong decisions needed to help them at that time. This led to further decades of totalitarian rule across much of Europe, which ended only with the revolutions of the 1980s. The year 1956 could have changed a great deal. This lesson now gives us grounds to say with absolute certainty: when people show courage and love of freedom, it is worth supporting. It deserves support everywhere in the world, so that freedom grows. I thank everyone who remembers history, honors people's courage and love of freedom, and does not shy away from decisions when decisions are needed. We honor the heroes of the Hungarian Revolution of 1956!

That 'nasty' selloff in the S&P 500: A gain of less than 2% today would result in a new ATH in $SPX ($QQQ lost 2.86% yesterday, for perspective)

The probability of today being green based on data from @AlmanacTrader is 71.4%. It was 66.7% yesterday and it didn't help. Seasonality has been an iffy influence for the last several months.

No one under 70 truly appreciates how close the world got to nuclear holocaust in October, 1962. On Oct. 22nd JFK addressed the nation revealing the presence of Soviet nuclear weapons in Cuba. I remember saying "goodbye" to a friend that evening. It was that close.

It occurs to me that there are dueling tail risks as we approach the midterms. Hard to know how it comes to pass but there is the risk of a resolution of the Iran War. On the other hand, there is the risk of Trump's denial/interference w/ the midterm results. $SPY $QQQ $IWM

Valuation concerns are extending to the biggest players in the private markets with OpenAI's valuation in its latest funding round being trimmed to $1.25 trillion from $1.40 trillion. Still that represents a nearly 50% increase from the $852 billion in its March funding round.
