After six months of bargaining, The Kansas City News Guild is thrilled to announce the unanimous ratification of our first labor contract.
🧵Each day, members of @KCNewsGuild are committed to telling stories that matter to readers of the @KCStar. The work can be thankless, but we’re proud to highlight our members who recently received major journalism awards.
Our entire sports team took top honors from the Associated Press Sports Editors. Additionally, @vgregorian @SamMcDowell11 and @jessenewell placed in the Top 10 for features, column writing, explanatory and beat writing.

And @BlairKerkhoff was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame. Blair was already in the United States Basketball Writers Association Hall of Fame and previously won the Football Writers Association of America’s Bert McGrane Award.

🚨BREAKING: @OneHeraldGuild and @BHnewsguild members voted unanimously to ratify our first collective bargaining agreement. Member turnout was strong with 93% of members in Miami and 100% in Bradenton casting a vote.

Employees from the Star-T, @KCNewsGuild and @OneHeraldGuild called McClatchy out on this hypocrisy today. In response, a rep for McClatchy claimed that it will not make changes during bargaining out of “respect for the bargaining process.”

Eleven days ago, @McClatchy sent an email to staff. “Inclusion and diversity are priorities and imperatives at McClatchy,” our CEO said. But what @tonywhunter failed to mention is McClatchy’s latest tactic for bargaining: Using Juneteenth as a bargaining chip.
