Home plate ump loses track of the count in the Astros/White Sox game, leads directly to a go-ahead homer by Houston. How does this happen in 2026?

Lifelong Bears fan here. Justin Fields has never been able to process in real-time. That’s it. That’s the whole deal. Anything more is superfluous.
Justin Fields might actually be blind

Jon Hamm's entire life ran a decade behind schedule, and it kept working out. His mother died when he was 10. His father when he was 20. He spent his 20s waiting tables and teaching drama at his old high school in St. Louis. His agency dropped him. He gave himself until 30 to make it as an actor. Mad Men found him at 36. Then came 2015. The show ended, his 18-year relationship ended, and he went through rehab, all within months of each other. The final episode of Mad Men put Don Draper at a retreat in Big Sur, where a young actress played the receptionist who checks him in. Five years later, they started dating. In June 2023 he married her, at 52, on the exact patch of Big Sur coastline where they filmed that episode. Now he's expecting his first child at 55, with the woman from the final scene of the show that made him.
Jon Hamm is expecting his first child with wife Anna Osceola at 55, @People reports.

Wait, wouldn’t this mean you never have to tag up as long as someone else is also on base?

I’ll give that attempt a 9.5. He faulted by making eye contact. Never make eye contact.
This is Fenrir. He has not yet been successful in cuddling with the cat. But thinks if he goes slow enough she might not notice. 13/10

My journalist BS meter is going wild. The team with the #1 pick for several months was not undecided less than 24 hrs before the draft. And the 40-minute “debate” by the front office chronicled in this story was likely performative, not decision-making. espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/4935…

4 generations of @whitesox fans! Young Riley’s first Sox game not in Kansas City. Made the 8 hr trip here to #RateField. Grandma started the Sox family tradition when she would listen to games on the radio each night with her Cubs fan father in the 40 & 50s.

These parents didn't invent an advantage. They found one that researchers have been documenting for 40 years, and the data is stranger than the strategy. It's called the relative age effect. Malcolm Gladwell made it famous with Canadian hockey: roughly 40% of elite junior players are born January through March, because youth leagues cut off at January 1 and the biggest 9-year-olds get picked for travel teams, better coaches, and more ice time. The talent gap starts as a birthday gap. School runs the same machine. A meta-analysis covering 8 million children found the youngest kids in a class are 34% more likely to be diagnosed with ADHD than the oldest. Teachers rate them as symptomatic. Parents of the same kids don't. The system is medicating birthdays. Then it follows you for life. A UBC study of 375 S&P 500 CEOs found only 6.1% were born in June and 5.9% in July, the youngest-in-class months. March babies, the oldest in class? 12.5%. Double the CEOs, from four months of head start at age five. The mechanism is brutally simple. Every early checkpoint (reading groups, gifted programs, team selection) misreads maturity as talent. Adults invest in the "talented" kid, and the extra investment makes the original misread look correct. The advantage compounds for decades off a coin flip nobody chose. Here's the part the redshirting parents miss: studies show the academic edge itself mostly fades by middle school. What persists is the sorting. The label, the track, the confidence. So the parents aren't delusional. They noticed the system grades five-year-olds on a curve set by their birth certificate, and they moved the birth certificate.
Parents in my area do this thing where they “redshirt” their kids (mainly boys, I think), holding them back from kindergarten for a year so they are bigger and more advanced than classmates when they start school. This is advantageous for sports, academic rank etc. I hate this mentality.

How can you lose to a country the size of Chicago? Just an absolutely shameful result for the U.S. You cannot feel good about this World Cup.
