One small step for TIPD & TIFR... one GIANT leap for Treasure Island! This morning, October 8, Treasure Island officially broke ground on our new storm-resilient Public Safety Facility, the future home of the Treasure Island Police Department and Treasure Island Fire Rescue! The city’s old public safety building has served this community since 1957. After Hurricanes Helene and Milton, our first responders have kept Treasure Island safe while working from temporary quarters. Now they’re getting a home built to withstand whatever Mother Nature throws at us. Here’s what’s coming to 108th Avenue (the former City Hall site): ✅ Built to Risk Category IV, the highest standard, reserved for buildings that must keep working during and after a disaster ✅ Storm surge protection and hurricane-resistant design throughout ✅ A 3-bay garage for fire trucks and emergency vehicles, plus firefighter living quarters ✅ All TIPD operations under one roof, with space for community engagement ✅ A training room that can double as a post-storm Emergency Operations Center This $10.8 million project (guaranteed maximum price) includes $4 million from the State of Florida. Major construction begins later this year, with a target opening in early 2028. Thank you to our state and local leaders, our City Commission, and everyone who helped bring this vision to life. Special thanks to master sand sculptors Dan Doubleday and Damon Meri for taking the time to transform the mound of sand into a unique sculpture celebrating Treasure Island.
