This is wrong @SkyNews. Baroness Harman initiated Sikh women do carry the Kirpan. The 5Ks - articles of faith are the same for initiated men and women.

So surprised to hear this on @GBNEWS. But thank you, @miriam_cates and @toryboypierce, for listening and understanding the facts. The Kirpan was not used, and you’re right, it’s a distraction asking for it to be banned.

What exactly is a Kirpan, and why does UK law allow Sikhs to carry one?
I spoke on @BBCLeicester about Sikh beliefs, the Kirpan, and the importance of accurate public understanding.

Jas Singh, representing the Sikh Federation (UK) @SikhFedUK speaking at a press conference at Guru Nanak Gurdwara, Smethwick @GNGSmethwick following the sentencing of Vickrum Digwa for 21 years for the murder of Henry Novak.
The Sikh community has unequivocally condemned in the strongest terms Vickrum Digwa for not only the murder of Henry Novak for which he is solely responsible, but also the lies he has told.
He made the wrong choice, should have pleaded guilty and must now serve his lengthy prison sentence.

The murder of Henry Nowak has triggered calls to ban the Sikh kirpan.
But what actually happened? Was a religious exemption really exploited?
I spoke to Jagbir Jhutti-Johal about the case and why many Sikhs feel their religious freedom is now on trial.

Back in 2017 we said we’d get this done. Plenty doubted it.
But once the funding was secured in 2021, it was never in doubt.
Good to see it finally delivered, thanks to everyone who played a part to bring trains back to the Camp Hill line after more than 80 years.
