At least Marie Antoinette had the decency to suggest that the peasants eat cake. Andy Burnham has told us to eat gherkins.

What has been going on at the Welsh Gender Service is a big story. Thanks to NHS Wales Joint Commissioning Committee's commitment to relative transparency*, we can see it unfold. genderblog.net/welsh-gender-… * it took them at least two years to pull their finger out, mind you

Pathetic. The debate on UK-EU ties is never going away and burying your head in the sand is daily uncertainty. As I heard from multiple businesses yesterday. There is no stable baseline. And won't be. We better get used to that and stop pretending it away.
"It would throw up a huge dust cloud of uncertainty." Former chief economist at the Bank of England Andy Haldane says reopening a debate about Brexit ‘would be a damaging thing'.

Sounds like the kind of lowkey diplomatic chatter that should be normal in any major relationship, exploring ideas in a broad fashion to test boundaries with no firm commitments. Just that it hasn't really happened before in UK-EU relations. thetimes.com/article/4ef6707…

Very sad. Drive them all underground. At least I could by cigarettes (JPS or B&H) when I was a kid - it was clean stuff, not the counterfeit shit, that would have been even more harmful.
A reminder that tobacco & vape law changes start 29 October 2026. It will be an offence: - to sell vaping or nicotine products to under-18s - for adults to buy them for under-18s. Vending machines dispensing tobacco, vape or nicotine products will be banned.

Fascinating to hear Ellie Chowns argue majority vote of @TheGreenParty conference is not a majority Where does that leave any of the party's policies/values/views? How does democracy work, if a majority vote at its binding conference is not a majority? youtube.com/live/6FhFdvSfVaU…

Shocking. The UK being open about what they want. Very novel. And very sensible negotiations - even if they still have to get it approved, at least it's a starting point that both sides understand.
Exclusive from @benclatworthy Britain is holding talks with the EU about a potential return to free movement and other options for closer alignment The Times has been told that the UK is discussing a series of options about the future relationship which are due to be unveiled within weeks Andy Burnham plans to set out his vision for closer ties with the bloc, including the potential of rejoining the union, and have a “conversation with the British public about our long-term future” The options that will be presented are being discussed with officials in Brussels to ensure both sides would ultimately be able to agree One source said all such routes would be “discussed using diplomatic channels” before any “big bang” launch of the options on the table thetimes.com/article/4ef6707…
