According to Afzal Beig on 26 Nov 1947 Sheikh Abdullah said that "whatever happened to the Muslims of Jammu was their own responsibility that they had never accepted him as their leader so he would not console them today."
Carefully delving into the Jammu massacre reveals

In early November 1947, thousands of Muslim residents from Jammu city & surrounding areas were gathered under the promise of safe escort to Sialkot across the border at Suchetgarh. Instead, the convoys of trucks and buses were diverted and ambushed near areas like Chattha,

For those claiming the mosque was never there: the 1911 photograph(1st pic) clearly shows it beside the temple. Built in 14th century, when Kashmiris were converted to Islam en masse, it had mysteriously disappeared by 1935(2nd pic), while the temple, dating to 200 BCE, remained.
Pardon my late comment on this.
It was not originally called Shankaracharya. Until the late 1930s, its official name was 'Takht-e-Sulaiman'.
And a mosque once stood on the hill; it fell into disuse during Sikh rule and was later demolished during the Dogra administration.

During my lifetime, I haven't heard of this mazar on shankracharya road leading to Shankracharya temple Srinagar...has it suddenly cropped up or it existed there?
I asked my senior frequent childhood visitors to temple like @kaul_utpal & ors, but they also denied. I know whole land to left & right belongs to social forestry.
Please throw some light as Govt tender & work has started here.

Admitting the Jammu massacre and all horrors years later, yet blind when it happened, is not vision. It was lust to replace the Maharaja and become the Maharaja himself.
- Dr P. Subbarayan's meeting with
Sheikh Abdullah in Jail, 1956
In April 1977, SMA & Afzal Beig met George Fernandes, Mohinder & Sardar Badal at Kashmir House, Delhi. That evening, dinner was hosted at B.J. Patnaik's residence. The visiting leaders supported the NC supremacy in the state, placing the Janta Party in a secondary role.

Crises are nothing new for the NC. During every crisis, it has turned to New Delhi for survival & pursued power by any means necessary. Whether colluding with the INC or courting Janta Party in 1975 or 1977, its priorities have remained the same.
History is brutal & it remembers.
Nehru in his exchange with activist Balraj Puri over the Bakshi govt in Kashmir. Nehru said:
"We have gambled at international stage on Kashmir & we can't afford to lose. At the moment,we r there at the point of a bayonet. Till things improve, democracy & morality can wait."

Dapaan Afzal Beig saeb in his memoir,
After the formation of Sheikh Abdullah's ministry under the 1975 Indira–Sheikh Accord, I went to Delhi. There, in the Parliament lobby i met I. K Gujral. Seeing me, he said: "Aaye the Mulk maangne mgr mehaz Iqtidaar par iktifaa kiya."

SMA quoted Quaid-e-Azam’s words to him during their meeting in Srinagar in 1946:
"Jinnah Sahib said, 'How can you trust a nation whose people consider drinking water offered by you a sin? In their society there is no place for you; they consider you untouchable (malaḥcha).' +1/4
As Per L.P Sen in Slender Was the Thread, NC Volunteers were going out on information seeking missions against the tribals entirely on their own, without request or knowledge of 161 Brigade. Sherwani was one of SMA's most loyal & competent in that effort,

Replying to @KashmirInterest
Saraf's account portrays Sherwani not as a hero, but as an NC goonda who was later caught by the Qabailis and killed in Baramulla. Whatever one makes of these allegations, they demonstrate how contested the official NC narrative of 1947 remains.

An interesting counter-narrative surrounds Maqbool Sherwani, whom the NC proudly claims as its martyr.
In his book, Rasheed Taseer presents a sharply different picture. He alleges that Sherwani was a bicycle thief, against whom an FIR was registered at Shergari P/S

in connection with Bicycle No. 441678. Taseer further claims that, when non-Muslims were fleeing Baramulla in fear of the tribal raid, Sherwani urged an NC worker, Ghulam Ahmad, to loot a man who had allegedly fled with one lakh rupees; but the worker refused.
