This is so disappointing. I had real hopes that the @UKLabour would be able to see beyond the rhetoric and think flexibly about education, but this is more of the same. Attendance itself isn't the problem. Poor attendance signals that there is a problem. You can't make that problem go away by forcing attendance. Many of our children aren't happy at school. Until we ask why that is, then nothing will change.

The single biggest problem in education today: children aren’t at school. Labour has a plan to get our children into school and learning again. Excellence must be for everyone.

I wonder if it's less that the arts are 'losing favour' with young people and more that they're not being offered? Do all schools still have music, drama etc. on offer at GCSE and A level?

Are we still having to have the same argument about the Arts being viable, life affirming and essential subjects? Because they are and it’s tiresome to keep having to fight to be heard! The Arts are essential subjects - don’t let them die #FFS

Teachers having to spend hours copying and pasting text from one ‘curriculum document’ into another so that it looks nicer or is more ‘OFSTED facing’ makes me sick.

The thing people often don’t talk about in teaching is how much of it is a performance. No matter what’s going on in your life you stand up in front of those kids and perform and if you’re ill or something challenging is going on in your personal life, that’s exhausting.
