Had a great day of talking to students and being celebrated @KStateHHS as the Rising Professional for the PhD program in the Department of Personal Financial Planning. Pictures w/my fellow PFP Rising Pros (Masters/Bachelors) and nominator Elizabeth KISS. 💜💜💜
.@Delta I gotta say, your team is 🔥🔥🔥 today!! SEA to SLC, funny, engaged crew (even at 5:30 a.m.), and SLC to MCI, taking an extra moment to listen to something I wanted to share, and laughing with me. Thank you!
I said to Slade, as I got dressed at 3 a.m., “When was the last time you looked this good at 3 a.m.?!” He replied (like the amazing husband he is), “Never!”
Off to @KState where #yourstruly is the 2024 #RisingProfessional in the Personal Financial Planning PhD program!
Though I've been unemployed for almost 6 weeks now (eep! where has the time gone?!) I haven't been resting on my laurels!
I just achieved my Money Habitudes Practitioner Certificate! I've been using this resource for YEARS and I LOVE it!! Now I can be OFFICIAL!

In his latest “Rethinking” podcast, Adam Grant talked with his guest Robin Arzón about the difference between being your “best self” vs being your “favorite self,” and it's got me thinking
Your "best self" is like being the superhero 🦸🏻♀️ version of yourself
It’s often based on societal expectations, cultural norms, and the opinions of others
It’s the version of ourselves that we think will make us more successful, more attractive, or more likable
It’s the version we believe we “should” be
(Narrator: It was at this point she knew Adam was staring directly into her soul)
But your "favorite self"?
That's the version of ourselves that we truly enjoy being
It’s the version of ourselves that makes us happy, fulfilled, and authentic 🥳
In today’s fast-paced world, there’s a lot of pressure to constantly strive to be our “best self”
This idea is often glamorized in self-help books, social media, and motivational speeches
But what if it’s not the “best” approach to your best life?
What if it never gets us to the point where we feel we are truly living in the essence of our being?
What if (nod to @tomowenmorgan) it deeply inhibits our creative expression??
Furthermore, our “best self” has an external locus of control
It leaves us constantly comparing ourselves to others and trying to live up to external standards of success and happiness
Meanwhile, our “favorite self” has an internal locus of control
We can focus on our own values, passions, and desires
We can stop trying to please others or live up to anyone else’s expectations and instead can focus on what truly makes us happy and fulfilled
What if…striving to be our favorite self was a healthier and more sustainable approach to goal setting?
What if…leading with our favorite self made us more likely to achieve our goals and live a more authentic and meaningful life?
What if…embracing our quirks, passions, and all the things that make us unique lead to more opportunities to chase happiness?
I know where I lean on this
Had a great start to my day meeting with @lady__bost to get to know one another personally! Can’t wait until our next convo! Maybe we won’t have snow and my internet won’t be on its last legs!
Thank you SO MUCH for reaching out, Jess!!
Week 2 since unexpectedly being laid off. Have done more laundry in the past week than I have in a year (I married my husband so he would do laundry.)

If I tried to build a rocketship, I would rightfully go nowhere at best or explode at worst. No one questions that. Yet for topics like finance, people feel like they *should* understand it, and thus try despite probable disaster. It's okay to ask or pay for help.
Thank you for the #AFCSpotlight, @AFCPE !!
