The first healthcare store we built was amazon.
The second healthcare store we built was @GeneralMedicine.
So it only felt appropriate that the third would be @Walmart.
Announcing Walmart Better Care Services, a healthcare store powered by General Medicine.
The story behind it, from @elliotcohen, below.
Nearly nine years ago, @TJParker and I went to Bentonville to talk to @Walmart about building a different kind of pharmacy.
While we were there, we visited The Walmart Museum. If you haven’t been, go! I loved seeing the history of a company that started with a single store and changed what people everywhere could buy and afford. We were building PillPack at the time, and spent much of that trip talking about what healthcare could learn from retail.
Today we’re launching the new Walmart Better Care Services, a healthcare store powered by General Medicine. Starting today, customers can browse more than 900 products and services across a dozen different provider groups, compare cash and estimated insurance prices, and get what they need. Walmart defined the experience, chose the products, services, and providers. Our technology makes it all shoppable.
A lot has happened since that first trip. We sold PillPack, built Amazon Pharmacy, and started @GeneralMedicine. We’ve spent most of our working lives trying to make getting healthcare easier. And somehow it still feels like we’re just getting started.
We have incredible clinicians and treatments in this country. But finding the right care, figuring out what something costs, and actually getting it remains convoluted and complicated. Something that should have been a quick purchase becomes a project. Too often, people just put it off altogether. And when the problem is serious, all that hassle lands on top of what’s already hard. When transactions are easy, you take a whole layer of complexity off the table.
We launched General Medicine a year and a half ago. A few weeks ago, we wrote about the idea behind it: healthcare needs a store. Helping Walmart build one for its customers is that idea reaching the scale we’ve been aiming at since PillPack.
I love that we have our own store. We get to build things we’ve wanted to exist for years, hear directly from customers, and keep making them better. But I’m just as excited about helping other companies build theirs. We learned at PillPack how much more you can do when you work with companies that already serve millions of customers. Tech platforms, retailers, health systems, payers, and manufacturers all bring something different. There’s a lot more we can do together than any of us could do on our own. With Walmart, we get to work with a retailer and pharmacy that’s part of everyday life all across the country.
This one is particularly special to me. We walked into Bentonville nine years ago hoping to build something together. It took a little longer than we expected, but here we are.
Build the store. Then build more stores.
Quick plug for General Medicine, the company my husband has been helping build for the last 3 years (and that just raised their Series B led by a16z).
When they were first getting started, I’ll admit that it took me a while to understand why they were so obsessed with price transparency in healthcare. It wasn’t until I used the product that it really clicked for me. In the US, most of us just accept that we can’t know ahead of time what care is going to cost, even though we would never accept that level of uncertainty for any other purchase. But it doesn’t have to be that way!
They’ve built a healthcare store that provides upfront cash and insurance prices for any type of care: prescriptions, labs, imaging, generalist and specialist visits, virtual and in-person. I’ve gotten truly excellent care through them, and you should give it a try! generalmedicine.co
General Medicine has raised $120M in Series B financing led by @a16z.
We’re building the healthcare store: a place where customers can search, compare, and buy care, see prices before deciding, and get guidance from a licensed clinician.
Today, the store includes more than 2,900 products and services across medications, labs, telehealth, specialist e-consults, and select in-person visits and procedures. This funding will help us expand the store into more categories of care for customers nationwide.

Exciting update from @runwayml_labs !
Introducing Project Continuum by @runwayml_labs, a new operating system research application built around real-time video interfaces.
Today, we're sharing an early look at four new ways of interacting with your computer: Portals, Visual Thinking, Responsive Video Interfaces and Interactive Worlds. Interface World Models, like Solaris, are reimagining what an interface can be.

Introducing Runway Ads, an autonomous engine for performance marketing.
Since July, we’ve used Runway Ads to:
-Scale ad volume 1,000% while doubling our return on ad spend
-Increase conversion by 34% with click-through rate holding steady
-Bring our cost per subscriber down 41%
-And add $100M ARR
Now, we’re making it available to select enterprise partners and will be rolling it out widely in the coming weeks.

there is a shift from prompt -> wait -> generation toward real-time generation.
the interesting part isn’t just that generation gets faster, it changes the interaction loop entirely. for creative tools, instant feedback lets you stay in flow and continuously steer what you’re making.
for interactive characters, games, or robotics, latency can become fundamental to whether the experience works at all

great to hear from @KatieLewisMIT @jimei_yang and @agermanidis at our @runwayml summit research panel.
some takeaways if you're a builder thinking about what this unlocks for products + interfaces 🧵

So much fun presenting at SIGGRAPH with @yining_shi ! We showed how you can create a custom conversational character from just a single reference image. Once your character is created (~15 sec), you can talk with them in real-time (24fps). Runway Characters works with any style, from a photorealistic selfie to a cartoon brand mascot or an abstract creature.
Links in thread for how to access Runway Characters in our webapp and API, plus our technical blog post.
Real-Time Live! is always one of SIGGRAPH’s most anticipated events, giving attendees a front-row seat to live demonstrations of the latest advances in computer graphics, AI, and interactive technology.
Among this year’s memorable presentations was Runway’s Characters, where presenters Yining Shi and Kathleen Lewis introduced an expressive feline mascot to demonstrate how a single image can be transformed into a real-time conversational character, complete with natural expressions, lip-sync, and personality. 🐱✨

Runway Characters is also available in our API. With our API, Characters can join calls (Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams) as a participant, be embedded in websites, and access screen sharing or live webcam. docs.dev.runwayml.com/charac…

We open-sourced AVTensor, the Rust media decoder behind Runway's training pipelines. It decodes video and audio on one timeline straight into PyTorch tensors, with decode-time resize up to 6× faster than PyTorch's torchcodec. It improved our training MFU by 1.8pp. Check it out!
