We're calling for a halt to recruitment of PAs in general practice following our consultation with over 5,000 GPs, until they are regulated & practices are in a position to implement our forthcoming guidance on scope of practice, induction & supervision. rcgp.org.uk/representing-you…

We have written to @ActAsOneBDC to express our concern at their ‘It’s a GP Practice Thing’ campaign. It is not only completely misleading for patients and the public for PAs to be described as physicians, it is against the law.

👇@DrPhilBanfield has written to NHS West Yorkshire ICB about the damaging, misleading, unlawful ‘It’s a GP practice thing’ campaign. Local doctors raising concerns about the title “Physician” being applied to non-doctors since Feb ‘23 were systematically ignored. We need answers
It’s dangerous to blur the lines between doctors and PAs (not doctors/no medical degree). This kind of practice is illegal and what @gmcuk should protect the public against. @NHSEngland must rethink the #itsaGPthing campaign entirely.

The American College of Pediatricians just put out a 🔥🔥🔥 statement calling out all the major medical associations by name for pushing the gender transition craze on kids. They ask for these groups to "IMMEDIATELY stop the promotion of social affirmation, puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and surgeries for children and adolescents who experience distress over their biological sex." The full @ACPeds statement ⬇️ "Therefore, given the recent research and the revelations of the harmful approach advocated by WPATH and its followers in the United States, we, the undersigned, call upon the medical professional organizations of the United States, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, the  Endocrine Society, the Pediatric Endocrine Society, American Medical Association, the American Psychological Association, and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry to follow the science and their European professional colleagues and immediately stop the promotion of social affirmation, puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and surgeries for children and adolescents who experience distress over their biological sex.  Instead, these organizations should recommend comprehensive evaluations and therapies aimed at identifying and addressing underlying psychological co-morbidities and neurodiversity that often predispose to and accompany gender dysphoria. We also encourage the physicians who are members of these professional organizations to contact their leadership and urge them to adhere to the evidence-based research now available.” They link to MANY studies on their site: doctorsprotectingchildren.or…

Wow. Dr Oxford pulling out from the @RCPhysicians annual conference keynote speech. This is what integrity and leadership truly looks like 🎤
I was deeply honoured to be invited to be a keynote speaker at this year's @RCPhysicians annual conference. But after last night's #RCPEGM I can no longer, in all conscience, give my speech. I feel duty bound to share in public my reasons why.

Thanks for reading and apologies for the long tweet. I'm aware of the backlash I may receive from the trust for posting this. We are encouraged to speak up but not when it's something this big. But silence and apathy will not help our patients.

In 1938, Lloyd Gaines filed a lawsuit after being denied admission to the University of Missouri Law School in 1935 because he was black. The Court ruled in his favor & required Missouri to admit him or set up a black law school. He disappeared 3 months later never to be found. —Lloyd Lionel Gaines was born to the Gaines family in northern Mississippi in 1911. One of eleven children, seven of whom survived illness and accident, he moved with his widowed mother and siblings to St. Louis after the premature death of their father. They found a better, although not easy, life for themselves in Missouri. Gaines excelled in his studies graduating as valedictorian in 1931 from Vashon High School. At Lincoln University in Jefferson City, he graduated with honors and was President of the senior class, while participating in many extra-curricular activities and working to pay for his schooling. Despite his outstanding scholastic record, the University of Missouri School of Law denied Gaines admittance in 1936 solely on the grounds that Missouri's Constitution called for "separate education of the races." By state law, Missouri would have been required to pay for Gaines to attend the Universities in Iowa, Kansas and Nebraska, but Gaines was determined to fight for the right to attend law school in his own state university. He sought legal assistance from the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), which had been working systematically to overturn the ignominious precedent of "separate but equal" established in Plessy v. Ferguson in 1896. Together, they challenged the University of Missouri's admissions policies. In 1938, Gaines won his case before the United States Supreme Court in State of Missouri ex rel Gaines v. Canada, paving the way for a series of cases that would lead to Brown v. Board of Education's outlawing segregation in public education. In March 1939, only three months after his Supreme Court victory, Lloyd Gaines was last seen in Chicago. He disappeared at age 28 with his promise of attending law school in Missouri unfilfilled. Lloyd Gaines was never to be seen or heard from again.

Neerja Bhanot was a 22 year old flight attendant on a hijacked plane, Pan Am Flight 73 on 5 September 1986 during a stopover The terrorists demanded her to collect the passports of all the passengers, intending to identify the Americans among them. Recognizing the danger this posed, she and her fellow attendants under her charge hid the passports of the American passengers, some under seats and others down a garbage chute, making it difficult for the hijackers to distinguish between nationalities. As the hijacking stretched on for 17 hours the terrorists eventually resorted to violence by opening fire and setting off explosives. Neerja opened one of the airplane doors, and even though she could have been the first one to escape from the aircraft, she did not do so and instead started helping the other passengers and unaccompanied children. That is when she was caught and her courage was met with extreme cruelty. She was killed. Neerja's actions saved many lives. In addition to saving the lives of many hostages, Neerja Bhanot also helped prevent the plane from getting off the ground A young child on board, who was just seven years old at the time, grew up to become a captain for a major airline. He credits Neerja as his inspiration, acknowledging that he owes every day of his life to her
