I actually agree after running all the numbers.
The only benefit of a shorter season is there are fewer games to get injured in. But the data doesn’t support the schedule, back to backs, etc as a factor in increased injuries.
There also isn’t any support for the idea that load management and more rest days have done anything to reduce injuries.
The injury problem is primarily lower body muscle strains happening early in the season. And that’s something that is most affected by off season and preseason prep and conditioning - not the schedule or style of play.
I’m beginning to think the “injury problem” is really a modern athlete problem with a lack of proper out of season and preseason ramp up/conditioning.
Iman Shumpert goes off on anyone calling for the NBA to shorten its 82 game season, arguing that players should focus on conditioning and changing how they play instead of reducing the number of games.
Shumpert points to legends like Michael Jordan, Karl Malone, John Stockton and Gary Payton, who played 82 game seasons, questioning why today’s players need fewer games. He believes the league should bring back more physical basketball, with players attacking the post, taking midrange shots, playing through contact and cutting down on flopping and exaggerated moves.
He also questions how much extra time players would actually gain from shortening the season, arguing that changing the way the game is played may be a better solution to the injury problem.

Bazen oyuncular sallıyor diye merak edip kontrol ettim, çünkü o dönem 5 yaşındaydım... Cidden ilk 11 maçta 7 double double, ilk 5i üst üste. Ortalamalar da 21-10-4-1-1. Kadroya Dennis Rodman gelince salmış sanırım...
Kobe says his first 2–3 NBA seasons were brutal and he regretted skipping college, and says if it weren’t for a random injury there’s no telling how long he would have came off the bench
“There were a couple low moments. Losing to the Celtics in ’08 was tough, but before that, at the beginning of the journey, it was not playing. Coming in as a rookie, I was saying, ‘Man, if I knew this was going to be like this, I would’ve went to school.’”
“I felt like my coach, Del Harris at the time, was trying to make sure he didn’t show favoritism to the young kid. And as a result, he swung completely in the opposite direction and did things that weren’t really fair.”
“I mean, not playing. My first two or three years were brutal. They were nightmares. I’d sit around and watch all my peers going out there playing 35, 37 minutes. AI, Ray Allen, Shareef Abdur-Rahim, everybody’s doing their thing.”
“And I’m sitting there glued to the bench, getting really pissed off and thinking I should’ve just gone to college. That was the hardest part.”
“During the lockout season, Rick Fox had plantar fasciitis in both feet. He wanted to play somebody else in front of me, and that person got hurt. So then he had no choice but to start me, but he started me at small forward.”
“And this was when small forwards were big small forwards. This is KG. This is Shareef Abdur-Rahim. This is Pippen. So I started the first 10 games or whatever at small forward. I think I had like seven straight double-doubles or something like that. And then I was in the starting lineup ever since. No looking back.”

Peyton Watson is the Cavs BIGGEST PROBLEM, according to @BleacherReport 😳
The Cavaliers gave up Max Strus, an unprotected first-round pick, and a 2027 second-round pick to acquire Peyton Watson on a four-year, $88 million deal.
So far, Watson has struggled, shooting just 37.1% from the field and 16.7% from three, while posting a -25.7 net differential. He has also missed the past few games with a hamstring injury, raising further concerns about his early impact.
Thoughts? 🤔
