Standard blockchains face a major roadblock when preparing for quantum computing: post-quantum signatures carry massive data overhead and require heavy computation.
Running lattice-based cryptography directly on-chain is usually too expensive for practical use.@Starknet is tackling this exact efficiency bottleneck head-on. By implementing Falcon-512, a NIST-standardized, post-quantum signature scheme, Starknet allows lattice-based verification to execute directly inside an account's validatefunction.
Through 17x calldata compression that packs 512 polynomial coefficients into just 29 felt252 storage slots, signatures can be verified on-chain at roughly 9.5M L2 gas, making it up to 65% cheaper than standard secp256r1 syscalls (~27.4M gas).
Furthermore, recent optimization challenges backed by StarkWare cut full Cairo-based verification costs down even further,slashing verification gas overhead by over 46%.
