Bringing quality machinery and equipment to East African businesses is about more than the product. That is why Equity Bank, through its #GermanDesk, together with DEG, VDMA, AHK Eastern Africa and the German Embassy in Kenya, recently convened German manufacturers (OEMs) in Nairobi for the annual German Desk Event. The German Desk is an initiative between DEG and Equity Group and funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. Held on 26th October, the event brought together 30 participants, including OEMs, development finance partners, industry associations and Equity teams. Through an interactive workshop, manufacturers shared the machines they want to introduce to East Africa, the barriers they face and practical solutions. At Galana-Kulalu, Selu Limited is demonstrating the potential of technology-led agriculture, achieving maize yields of up to 35 bags per acre during its pilot phase. With 2,000 acres under cultivation, the company now plans to invest Ksh13 billion over the next three years to bring its full 20,000-acre site into production.
