Engagement is not entertainment. That's the confusion for most. Engagement is the urge participate in thinking and learning. Learners in class can't achieve in what they never engage with.

Outcomes are a by-product of process and performance.
A new meta-analysis on the impact of goal setting on performance found: 1. Process goals had a large effect on performance 2. Performance goals had a moderate effect 3. Outcome goals had a negligible effect

This is why we shouldn't call it Tier 1. First time good instruction is not a tier. Most focus on the intervention and not the instruction that makes the guaranteed curriculum viable. @CindaFrancis7
Tier 1 is IT. When it is where it needs to be, Achievement increases Misbehaviors decline Learning happens Stop throwing money, programs, interventions & the kitchen sink at Tiers 2 & 3. Tier 1 is where our work is & the problems get solved, And it requires intentional design.

What's worse for learning? Being absent from school? OR Being bored at school? Both have an effect size of -0.46 or a over a year's worth of lost learning potential This means we need to place as much urgency on getting learners engaged as we do getting them to school

Safe, seen, and heard.
Rigor WITH Relationships We can raise the rigor w/ learners because they feel: Safe Known Belonging Trust When they are in the classroom. Couple that with our belief in them & their abilities to learn at high levels & there's no stopping them.

So proud of our @FUSDFlashes team! Energized for a fantastic year ahead—win the day!
Our teachers kicked off the 2024-2025 school year with a bang – and some snowballs! As we dive into the new school year, we're fully committed to our mission, vision, and collective commitments at FHS. @KeithGDerrick @CindaFrancis7 @Docmoreland89 @mr_randylgarcia

Trying to Improve learning primarily thru Tiers 2 & 3 is like taking a family road trip by pushing the car down the road instead of using the engine. It's gonna be a lot of work & sweat & won't get you where you need to go. Crank that Tier 1 engine up & get things moving.

Does this really still happen? In my 16 years as a Principal I have never asked teachers to submit lesson plans.
Interesting opinion piece ... Stop Making Teachers Submit Lesson Plans! This archaic practice wastes time, erodes trust, and detracts from what really matters. ascd.org/el/articles/stop-ma… via @ASCD
