🚨 EXCLUSIVE🚨
Children as young as 8 are being influenced by drill music, exploited by gangs & carrying knives in Newcastle.
“I’ve carried a knife... and seen people get stabbed”
We meet “Jay”, who’s been in and out of gangs since he was a young boy.
Watch 📺 our special report
🔹 437 under-18s referred to @NorthumbriaOPCC’s Violence Reduction Unit in the last year
🔹 181 arrested by new @northumbriapol unit charged with tackling gangs
🔹 229 knives seized in May raids
🔹 Rambo Kmoves, crossbows & tasers among the weapons seized
@NEYouth_ tells me 50% of its referrals this year have carried a knife & 38% have assaulted someone.
@kemakay tells me there is a better path for young people to use their music, than glorifying violence through drill music.

I was so happy to hear @kemakay and see him feature #GreatNorthRun2023 well done for him on a great time running too. Kema is a wonderful human. We will never forget his support to my son Daniel. He mentored him when he recorded his first rap songs on discharge from hospital.
