These skeletal crones cannot tolerate even a moment of silence once their squinting eyes catch sight of another human. The screeching usually relates to their unleashed “rescue dog” (“MY DOG’S FRIENDLY!!,” etc.) if I can decipher the squawking at all. I *never* acknowledge them.

There are many potential hazards for the daily walker on desert trails & jeep roads, but the only consistent threat I’ve encountered is “old woman screeching at me from a distance.” They go extra insane when you ignore them & turn off to a quieter path.

My mediocre local sushi place has replaced the background-music stream with AI pop slop. I’d suspected this for a while, but finally shazam’d a couple tracks & they’re all unknown. Had to check because modern Hot Adult Contemporary is otherwise indistinguishable.

Yes, this is suddenly common. $1,500 a year in “public performance” fees is rough for a small business, so restaurants are using a $100 Suno subscription. But it really eats away at the customers’ soul, even if only the most sensitive-to-slop people notice it.
