Nooo guys you’re missing the point or maybe just engagement baiting. They’re spoiled godless millennial brats who grew up coddled and sheltered and have never experienced any serious consequence or hardship in their lives up until their foray into politics. They don’t grasp the gravity or sanctity of anything and therefore make a mockery of everything. They lack even the social grace to at least fake an air of solemnity for the optics. Their much vaunted charisma and savvy is just being loud and aggressive. Their hierarchy of values and sense of meaning is totally scrambled. In the last few months, my life has changed beyond all compare. I made a decision to support my Jewish friends and without hesitation. I feel anxious almost everywhere I go but I do not regret my decision. I have seen friends that I have helped and supported turn on me without a conversation. It hurts because I know that not only do they know Jewish people but they have benefited hugely from the association with Jews. British Jews have always made London better from Philip Sallon's crazy nightclubs to the brick lane Bagel shop. More importantly and most shocking is that many of these anti Isreal people have zero political instincts. They only care because it has become fashionable to care. I would go as far to say that they are the biggest and most hideous cowardly fakes to walk this earth. Why are people who support their Jewish friends being called to account while these fakes, like Ed Sheeran, Jade and countless others get to pretend to care about a situation they could not comprehend even if they really tried. I support anyone calling for peace. That is what we should all be doing. How can Isreal be an apartheid state when Arabs and Christians live there peacefully and are part of the political system? As for Ed Miliband, clearly we know why he never because Prime Minister and Andy Burnham won't be getting my vote. Here's what I think @mehdirhasan doesn't understand: In the United States, polls don't make policy. Policymakers do. Screaming, shouting, and protesting are cute, and exercising all of your freedoms of speech in defense of the Palestinians is admirable. But Mehdi is just a spectator. He's a professional spectator, jawboner, and bloviator, so he has no idea how government, diplomacy, negotiation, or strategic alliances actually work. No amount of public support in polling or public protest will influence how or when those in power drastically change Israel policy. Mehdi can hate U.S. policy toward Israel all he wants, whether it's being carried out by a Democratic or Republican president. But public opinion polls don't dictate American foreign policy. Never have. Never will. Netanyahu agrees with @mehdirhasan and has explicitly said Israel should phase out the financial component of U.S. military aid and ultimately bring it down to zero. Israel can stand on its own. That measly $3.8 billion in annual U.S. security assistance is one component of a much broader strategic relationship with Israel that will NEVER be reversed. Ending that financial assistance wouldn't, by itself, end the U.S.-Israel alliance or the decades-long security, intelligence, defense, and diplomatic relationship between the two countries. Military aid or no military aid, the fundamental question for American policymakers remains the same: What relationship with Israel best serves U.S. interests in the Middle East? Good debate to have. But he and his friends are delusional if they think the goal of U.S. policy is or will ever be to subjugate Israel—or suddenly recast a longstanding democratic ally and strategic partner as an American adversary on par with Putin's Russia. They can advocate for changing U.S. policy toward Israel (also delusional, btw). That's entirely legitimate. But ending military aid is not the same thing as ending the U.S.-Israel strategic relationship, much less turning Israel into an enemy of the United States.
