Mayor Bensouda Dismisses Prospect of Council Vote of No Confidence, Hits Back at Barrow
KM Mayor Talib Ahmed Bensouda has warned President Adama Barrow that any expectation that Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) councillors will pass a vote of no confidence against him is a waste of time.
Speaking at a rally in Old Yundum, Mr. Bensouda said the KMC councillors remain loyal to the council and committed to their duties, and would never collude with the government to remove him from office unlawfully.
He also reminded the President of the deaths of 66 children linked to contaminated syrup, as well as the killing of officers of the Police Intervention Unit (PIU). He further pointed to corruption allegations in the government raised in audit reports, on which he said no action has been taken.
Turning the question back on the President, Mr. Bensouda asked whether Mr. Barrow’s own ministers would pass a vote of no confidence in him over the corruption in his government.
🔴COALITION 2026 PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE | 30 OCTOBER 2026
TALIB AHMED BENSOUDA IS NOT BANNED FROM CONTESTING THE DECEMBER 5TH PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS
UNITE and COALITION Partners are aware of the concern among supporters emanating from the publication of the Government White Paper on the Local Government Commission of Inquiry Report just hours after the IEC published its nomination calendar.
Let it be clear: The Commission of Inquiry HAS NOT BANNED Talib Ahmed Bensouda from contesting the presidential election.
The White Paper CANNOT ban Talib Bensouda from contesting the presidential election.
We hereby reassure all party members, supporters and sympathizers that the Nomination of Talib Ahmed Bensouda will proceed as scheduled.
The timing of the White Paper is a weak, last-minute political manoeuvre intended to confuse the public and to create uncertainty and panic among voters ahead of nominations.
We call on all Gambians to remain confident, resolute and united.
The NPP Government is desperate and afraid because they will lose this election. All Coalition 2026 political campaign activities will continue as planned with even more momentum.
On Saturday, 7 November 2026, we call upon Gambians from every region and community to mobilise peacefully and accompany our presidential candidate, Talib Ahmed Bensouda, to the Independent Electoral Commission for his nomination.
Talib Ahmed Bensouda will be nominated on 7 November 2026.
The law shall prevail. The people shall be heard. Democracy must proceed.
