Your perspective is completely understandable! Although Tetsuya Nomura may have been involved in supervising the book, it's honestly unclear if he personally checked every descriptive sentence. So many JP fans also hesitate to treat this detail as strict canon.

Translation: "He reunited with Roxas, Xion, and Isa, but he still cares about the black-haired girl he met in his boyhood." Since it mentions Xion separately and specifies "boyhood," it's assumed the JP text links "black hair" to Subject X. However...

Got reminded of this today & I want to discuss it: Where does the "Subject X has black hair" rumour come from? Is it even true? Let's look at Axel/Lea's page in KH3's Ultimania, specifically his goals section (mtl bcuz i couldn't find the og fan tl source) (1/9) #KingdomHearts

-that released after Re:Mind DLC merely refers to her as "that girl" So every piece of supplementary media is consistent with the fact that we as the audience do not know anything about Subject X's physical characteristics (8/9) #KingdomHearts

Fact of the matter is that the timing of Ultimania's release as well the way it was worded gave credence to a theory that was a fresh and hot topic in the fanbase, even tho it was a total misinterpretation of what was said in the book (9/9) #KingdomHearts
