In 1982, 18 pupils from a struggling East LA school passed a college-level calculus exam. Then they were asked to prove it, so 12 sat it again. All 12 passed 📐 Mike's write-up on Jaime Escalante and the class that had to pass twice: ibbleobble.com/calculus-clas…

Tiny wiggles, big feelings 🤖 Paul sticks up for the little things that make a site feel loved: hover states, gentle bounces and micro-interactions that earn their place. In praise of bells and whistles 👉 kidd.co/in-praise-of-bells-a…

Remember, remember… it's Bonfire Night 🎆 So here's how we gave Horizon Fireworks a brand that goes bang: a 'Z' bolt, black, white and pink, and a site built to light up the dark. kidd.co/horizon-fireworks-br…

Bonfire Night tomorrow, so here's a fitting one 🎆 For Horizon Fireworks we pulled the Z out of the name and turned it into a lightning bolt. Black, white and pink so it pops at night, plus a WordPress site for them and sister brand Horizon Lasers. kidd.co/work/horizon-firewor…

If you’re a man and you’re struggling right now - just remember nobody cares and it gets worse. Cheers.

Imagine a school with its own town: a mayor, a TV station, a newspaper, shops, and a café where you order in French 🥐 Pupils at Grange Primary in Long Eaton built and ran it in the mid-2000s. Paul's write-up on the Ibbleobble blog: ibbleobble.com/primary-schoo…

In 2012 a Stirling headteacher took one puffed-out class for a run round the school field 🏃 A month later almost all of them could do it without stopping. Now more than 5 million children do The Daily Mile. Mike's write-up on the Ibbleobble blog: ibbleobble.com/headteacher-w…

Happy Halloween from the KidDotCo workshop 🎃 We made Ibbleobble Halloween Stickers for iMessage: a haunted house, a bubbling cauldron, potions and a proper haul of sweets. Gently spooky, family-friendly, and still a joy to send. apps.apple.com/gb/app/ibbleo…

Thing we tell every start-up: people judge you on your logo and website long before they ever speak to you. It doesn't have to be fancy. It does have to look like you meant it.

Paul: can the button bounce a bit when you tap it? Mike: yeah sure 4 hours later Mike: done Paul: love it. can it bounce a bit less? Being brothers, neither of us can storm off. And yes, the bounce was worth it.

Recent one: brand, website and van livery for Waterworks Plumbing NSW, a start-up in Sydney. We tried hard to avoid the usual taps and blue water drops. The icon had to work as a tiny favicon and still look right on the side of a truck. kidd.co/work/waterworks-plum…

Why 'Roots'? It nods to the allotment the kids affectionately call 'Lanzalotty'. It's their safe haven, so the name felt right. Best bit: the gang are already adding new content to the site themselves. raiseroots.co.uk

New on the blog: Roots, a brand and website for Synergy (Grimsby) CIC, a Lincolnshire social enterprise for young people aged 8 to 25. We made the name, brand, mascot and a bespoke CMS site, working closely with the kids on the case studies. kidd.co/roots-synergy-grimsb…

New on the Ibbleobble blog: how Feversham Primary in Bradford went from special measures to Ofsted Outstanding by putting music at the heart of every school day. Worth a read if you make things for schools. ibbleobble.com/the-bradford-…
