The single biggest mistake Marvel ever made was softening Thanos. In this scene, he carried the aura of an unpredictable, bloodthirsty cosmic tyrant who would casually bathe the starways in blood. By the time Infinity War arrived, they sanded off all his jagged edges and turned him into a brooding philosopher just to make him palatable to general audiences. In trying to make him understandable, they forgot that some monsters are terrifying precisely because they cannot be reasoned with.
