What’s coming was avoidable, but Republicans in Congress let Trump start a war, increase spending, arm a genocide, betray MAHA, and cover up for Epstein’s coconspirators. I was ousted with over $30 million of foreign lobby money for refusing to go along, and here we are.

What a good man. May his memory be eternal.
In 1952, an English teacher named Cecil Dormand secretly paid for a dirt-poor 11-year-old to take a drama course. He never told him and the boy didn’t find out until decades later. By then, he was a knight, that little boy’s name was Patrick Stewart. He was born into a poor family in Mirfield, a small mill town in Yorkshire and his father came home from World War II a violent man, and he was violent toward Patrick’s mother. Young Patrick learned exactly when to step between his father’s fist and his mother. An English teacher put a copy of Shakespeare in his hand and told him to get up and perform. He never stopped and left school at 15. By 19 he was completely bald... most agencies told him he'd never make it because of that. In 1987, the LA Times called him an “unknown British Shakespearean actor” when he was cast as Captain Picard. Then he became one of the most famous faces on Earth. You’ve probably heard that part. Here’s the part you haven’t: He spent decades as a patron of Refuge, sheltering women and children from domestic violence. But he never stopped trying to understand his father. He dug up a 1940 newspaper clipping that said his dad had come home with severe shell shock. He went to France and walked the ground where his father’s unit was pinned down under bombing for hours. He learned his father had PTSD, and nobody ever helped him. So Patrick became an ambassador for Combat Stress, a charity that helps veterans. In 2013, a young woman at a Texas convention told him she was a survivor of domestic violence. He asked, “My dear, are you okay?” Then he hopped off the stage, held her, and told her: “You never have to go through that again, you’re safe now.” At Dragon Con, a Make-A-Wish girl dressed as Spock came to meet him. 2,000 people were waiting for him to speak... he sat down and talked with her for 15 minutes, making all of them wait. He told her that since they were friends now, whenever she saw him on screen she could wave and say, “Hello Patrick.” After 9/11, he felt helpless, so he brought his one-man A Christmas Carol back to Broadway for a full week of charity shows. He played every character himself and donated every cent. In 2019 he did it again, and every dollar went to feeding hungry New Yorkers. In 2017, he fostered a pit bull named Ginger, who had been rescued from a dogfighting ring. She was his first dog in more than 50 years. He couldn’t bring her home to England, so he found her a family. Then he kept fostering more. When he said he was done with Star Trek so many people told him the show had gotten them through the hardest times of their lives. So he wanted to see if Picard could do it one more time. Rest in Peace, Sir Patrick 🖖

You can judge the cultural health of your community by the ratio of traditional costumes to pop culture ones. If your town has more animals, ghosts, and witches than it does Marvel heroes, sports stars, and video game characters, you are going to make it.
I am happy to report that every child I saw this Halloween in our rural village was some variety of animal, mostly farm animals and a few dinosaurs. We are going to make it.

💯 If you keep falling for the “but the other cult is worse than our cult” line, all you will ever get is two cults locked in a death spiral. Only if each cult is repeatedly punished at the ballot box will the parties (maybe) get wise and drive the cultists back to the margins.
We all know the type. First, if you oppose their candidate, they insult and try to bully you with names like RINO or squish or even cuck and say, "Good riddance. We don’t need you." That’s stage 1. In Stage 2, their guy either wins or loses a primary. If they win, they insult and bully the losing candidate and his or her supporters, often also telling them to take a hike from their party. But they know on some level that they are wrong, and the greater their insecurity, the more ferocious and intense their insults and bullying. It’s human nature, In Stage 3, where we are now, the policy and character flaws of their candidates are thoroughly exposed and their candidate falls behind in the polls in a general election that should have been a layup. The same people who insulted and tried to bully you and sent you "bye Felicia" memes a few months ago are now demanding that you be a "team player" and vote for their guy. That’s how they see politics — solely as a team sport. They are incapable of thinking of politics on any strategic or philosophical level, and TOTALLY incapable of seeing any longer-term consequences from supporting the very worst people they can find with the pretext being only that in their minds, the other side is even worse. We need to break this cycle. The best way to do it is with your vote, or your non-vote. I hate to break it to everyone, but your one single vote is not going to change the result of an election. Either the voters as a collective will decide or, in a very close election, some judge or set of judges will decide. Not you. This means that you can use your vote any way you choose, including sending a message to both sides to stop offering us unfit, unqualified candidates for public office.

Some guys just cannot get it through their thick skulls that there really are people who simply put truth above party and cannot abide groupthink. They assume that those who don’t fall in line must have some angle or agenda – that is, that everyone is as unprincipled as they are.

Obviously @EWErickson thinks people will throw him a parade for his *stunning courage* in torching his own career and reputation among Republicans. The left will never accept him and there simply aren’t enough jobs at The Bulwark to support everyone who voluntarily exiles himself.

What’s the difference between: 1. The obnoxious punks harassing this poor guy 2. Woke ideologues who say he benefits from “white privilege” 3. Politicians who exacerbate the affordability crisis while calling it a “hoax” The difference is that 1 and 2 don’t add insult to injury by pretending to sympathize with him
“I have four kids at home that went to bed without me.” “I have to wake up at 5am and hit 10 more stores” “You’re probably making money off of this while I can’t pay my mortgage.” “This is not a joke to me” This is the Everyman. He is now an icon.

It’s not impossible that he’s having some fun testing the thesis that there’s nothing he can say or do that will get his most cult-like Christian devotees to abandon him. “Can you believe it? I even posted a picture of myself as Christ and they went along! Now check this out…”
What the hell is wrong with this guy? Every day we have to hear this crap...

“When will the war in Iran end? Whenever I want it to end." So much for the legal fiction that it isn’t a war. U.S. law and the Constitution prohibit the Executive branch from fighting a war that isn’t declared or authorized by Congress.

In 2008, Trump said that if a president gets us into a war on the basis of lies about weapons of mass destruction, then he ought to be impeached: facebook.com/watch/?v=931328…
🇺🇸🇮🇷 Trump says Iran was 2 weeks away from a NUCLEAR missile when he launched the war "I don't feel we had a choice. They were 2 weeks away from having a nuclear missile." He then pivoted to Operation Midnight Hammer, the June 2025 B-2 strikes on Fordow and Natanz that he says "obliterated" Iran's program, eight months before this war began. That leaves a hard question hanging... If the program was obliterated in June, how was Iran two weeks from a nuclear missile by February? Writer: Daniel

It is not true, no matter how many times the lie is repeated. And the arguments for it are pure sophistry, as I showed in this article: edwardfeser.blogspot.com/202…
Trump on Iran: "We didn’t start the war with Iran. Iran started the war with us." Do you mind if I copy that line?

That fits. Overconfident and impulsive action which ignores the warnings of the more sober-minded and only ends up ruining something priceless. Pretty much describes the last few years of right-wing politics.
🚨NEWS: Pete Hegseth wanted a priceless World War II-era globe used by Dwight Eisenhower displayed in his Pentagon office, but instead of waiting for professional curators, his staff attempted to move the historic artifact themselves and DROPPED IT, puncturing the globe near Antarctica and breaking its mounting, according to The Washington Post. The Pentagon confirms the damage.
