Gunner Henderson & Blaze Alexander
For
Ketel Marte & Tommy Troy
Per @afkostka, the #Orioles will listen on trade offers for anyone except Pete Alonso.
Names in play include:
- Gunnar Henderson (sources say a trade isn't likely and would cost a steep price)
- Coby Mayo, Jordan Westburg, Blaze Alexander and Christian Encarnacion-Strand (from a third base surplus)
- Ryan Helsley or Félix Bautista (late-inning relievers)
Baltimore wants a starting pitcher, outfield help and a catcher upgrade. That's after trading Adley Rutschman to Boston at the deadline.

Brother you ain’t getting Ketel without giving up Spencer Jones or Luis Garcia Jr. plus a pitcher
After reading all sorts of predictions, offseason plans, and opinions across Twitter and the web, here's what I think the Yankees should do offensively this offseason.
I'm not going to get too deep into trade packages, pitching, or how every acquisition gets done just yet. I haven't worked all of that out. For now, I want to focus on roster construction, lineup balance, and what I think the ideal / realistic offense should look like in 2027.
The Yankees are in a really weird spot. The way they've constructed this roster over the last few years makes very little sense, and I think there are three main offensive priorities:
1. Balance the lineup, particularly against LHP.
2. Find a legitimate leadoff hitter.
3. Improve positional flexibility and overall depth.
Starting with the outfield, I think it's pretty much set:
LF: Cody Bellinger (L)
CF: Spencer Jones (L)
RF: Aaron Judge (R)
That gives you an extremely talented outfield, but also two more left-handed bats in a lineup that's already overloaded with them. Jones is still developing, particularly defensively, but I think he deserves the opportunity to establish himself as the everyday CF.
The infield is where things get complicated.
I think Ben Rice and Luis García Jr. both need to be in the lineup, but their defensive fits create a problem. Both are left-handed hitters who are best suited for 1B. Rice could DH, but Stanton is still here, and Judge should be getting more DH opportunities as he gets older and with his injury risk.
Something has to give.
I don't like García at 2B defensively, and if Rice already struggles at 1B, moving him to 3B makes even less sense. My preference would be to keep Rice at 1B and explore García at 3B. His arm and ability to handle the position are legitimate questions, but I think it's worth considering.
As for Ryan McMahon, I'm ready to move on. His offensive production simply isn't good enough, and the defense hasn't justified keeping him in the lineup.
At SS, I'd give George Lombard Jr. the job and let him develop. Unless the Yankees can somehow acquire someone like Jeremy Peña or Otto Lopez, I don't see a reason to complicate things there.
That leaves Anthony Volpe at 2B, which isn't a terrible fallback option, but I think there's a much better solution.
Ketel Marte
I've been a huge Marte fan for years, and I think he's almost exactly what this lineup needs.
He's a switch-hitter who's particularly dangerous from the right side, can play 2B, and gives the Yankees a legitimate leadoff option. His contract is manageable, and with Arizona potentially willing to move him, I think he's someone the Yankees should aggressively pursue.
Obviously, there have been questions about his clubhouse presence, but I'd be willing to take that chance if the acquisition cost is reasonable. Perhaps a change of scenery and leadership is exactly what he needs.
I'm also not interested in bringing back Jazz Chisholm Jr. or Trent Grisham at their expected prices. And while Brandon Lowe is a good hitter, adding another left-handed bat with a redundant profile makes very little sense to me.
The next position I'd address is catcher.
Austin Wells showed some improvement in the postseason, but I'm not convinced he's the long-term answer as the everyday starter. With Rice, Bellinger, Jones, and García already in the lineup, catcher presents a perfect opportunity to add a right-handed impact bat.
Ryan Jeffers is one possibility, but his defensive limitations and projected contract give me some hesitation.
My preferred option is Shea Langeliers.
He brings significant right-handed power, crushes left-handed pitching, and provides a strong offensive presence at a position where the Yankees could use an upgrade.
I'd also be completely fine keeping Wells as the backup. Having two legitimate catching options would improve the depth considerably, and Wells could still pick up additional ABs at DH when needed.
With Marte at 2B and Langeliers behind the plate, I think the lineup starts to make a lot more sense.
Finally, the bench needs to be constructed with actual roles in mind.
With Bellinger, Jones, and Judge starting in the outfield, I'd want a right-handed fourth outfielder who can legitimately handle CF.
My preferred target is Jacob Young from Washington.
He gives the Yankees excellent defensive coverage in CF, something I think is particularly important with Jones still developing. He also provides flexibility when Judge needs to DH or an outfielder gets injured.
Volpe would move into a utility infield role, and Wells would serve as the backup catcher.
For the final bench spot, I'd target Casey Schmitt from San Francisco.
This lineup would benefit tremendously from a right-handed hitter who can handle 3B against lefties, provide defensive insurance for García, and cover 1B when Rice needs a day off.
Schmitt checks those boxes, and with the way this roster is constructed, I could realistically see him getting 400+ ABs. Isaac Paredes and Josh Jung are other possibilities, but I think Schmitt makes the most sense for this specific role.
I'd also be willing to move Jasson Domínguez, Heliot Ramos, Jose Caballero, and potentially others to help reshape the roster. Again, the actual trades and acquisition costs are a separate discussion.
So here's my ideal 2027 Yankees offense:
Starting Lineup
1. Ketel Marte 2B [S]
2. Ben Rice 1B [L]
3. Aaron Judge RF [R]
4. Cody Bellinger LF [L]
5. Shea Langeliers C [R]
6. Luis Garica Jr. 3B [L]
7. Giancarlo Stanton DH [R]
8. Spencer Jones CF [L]
9. George Lombard Jr. SS [R]
Bench
Jacob Young — OF [R]
Anthony Volpe — INF [R]
Austin Wells — C [L]
Casey Schmitt — UTIL [R]
To me, this is a significantly more balanced roster.
You have a legitimate leadoff hitter in Marte, better left-right balance throughout the lineup, considerably more positional flexibility, and a bench that actually complements the starters rather than just collecting redundant players.
There are obviously risks, particularly with García at 3B, relying on Lombard and Jones as everyday players, and the uncertainty surrounding Marte. But I'd much rather take those chances than continue building around the same roster deficiencies we've seen for years.
The Yankees don't necessarily need to add the biggest names available. They need to add the right players who complement what they already have.
This is the offensive blueprint I'd build around. The trades, pitching staff, and bullpen are separate pieces I still need to work through.
