Great town hall in Littlefield with Lamb County on Wednesday. Property tax appraisals were a big part of the conversation, particularly how properties are compared and whether those comparisons account for communities with similar economic conditions. We also spent time talking about public education, which I expect will receive a great deal of attention during the 90th Legislative Session. Folks in the room shared their own experiences, helping everyone better understand what's happening in our schools. We also discussed HB 3000 and the positive results we've seen from that legislation. I walked through how our state government operates and how legislation moves through the Texas House. Sometimes these conversations leave us with more questions than answers, and that's part of the process. Those questions still give us something to work on. Thank you to everyone in Lamb County who joined us.

Robin and I traded the Panhandle for Fort Worth yesterday and spent the afternoon knocking on doors for John McQueeney. After a week of town halls across District 88, you'd think we'd had enough walking and talking. Apparently, we had a little left in us! Enjoyed getting out together and helping a fellow Republican. Robin's always along for the adventure, whether we're on the road or walking a neighborhood.

Finished Tuesday's town halls in Plainview with a roundtable discussion in Hale County. We covered many of the same topics we've been hearing across District 88, including data centers, property taxes, private property rights and the work ahead in the 90th Legislative Session. Appreciate everyone who joined us in Plainview.

Our next stop on Tuesday was Tulia, where Swisher County showed up with a great group of folks ready to talk about the issues facing their community. We spent time listening to concerns, answering questions and discussing priorities for the 90th Legislative Session. My job is to pay attention to the problems people are dealing with and work toward policies that address them. Disaster mitigation is a good example of what can happen when we identify a problem and work through the legislative process to find solutions. I'm proud of the work we've done to equip rural communities with the equipment they need when fire and other disasters happen. Thank you to everyone in Swisher County who took the time to visit with me.

We kicked off this week's town halls in Nazareth with a large crowd from Castro County and plenty of questions about data centers. Data center development is a big topic across District 88 right now, and folks had questions about what these facilities could mean for our electricity, water resources, infrastructure and private property rights. We also talked about how the Texas Legislature works. We meet in regular session every odd-numbered year to consider legislation, but the work of studying issues, meeting with constituents and preparing for the next session happens throughout the interim. As Chairman of the House State Affairs Committee, I've spent a lot time working through some of these same issues in Austin. Hearing directly from the communities affected is an important part of my job. Thank you for coming, Castro County. I appreciate the feedback and great turnout.

I'll be stopping in Morton tomorrow, (Wednesday, October 21) for our Cochran County town hall. Join me from 1-2pm at Cochran County Senior Citizens. Representing a district as large as ours means putting plenty of miles on the truck, but I enjoy getting out and visiting with the people I represent. Every community has its own concerns, and those town halls help me understand what needs attention when we get back to Austin. Looking forward to seeing everyone in Cochran County.

The station is one block southeast of the courthouse, behind the old car wash. I look forward to visiting with everyone tomorrow morning!

We wrapped up this week’s town hall visits in Andrews, where I walked through how legislation moves through the Texas House and my role as your representative. A big part of that job is making sure West Texas has influence in the decisions being made at the Capitol and that the needs of our communities are considered early in the process. As Chairman of the House State Affairs Committee, I’ve had the opportunity to work on some of the biggest policy issues facing Texas. The committee covers a wide range of subjects, and every one of them affects Texans. Texas is growing, and we need to be thinking ahead about what that growth will mean for our communities, infrastructure and resources. Thank you to everyone in Andrews who came out this week. It was great to see you.

Our second stop Wednesday was in Plains, and it was good to see such a large turnout from folks across Yoakum County. Thank you to Amber and her team for the hospitality and to Judge Ybarra for the warm welcome. We talked about how the legislative process begins, including our constitutional responsibility to pass a balanced budget and fund public education. From there, we covered some familiar territory from our other town halls, including property taxes, data centers and the issues affecting rural Texas. West Texas and our rural communities have a strong voice in Austin, including in leadership positions where some of the biggest decisions are made. I’m proud to be part of that representation. Thank you for welcoming me this week, Plains.

We started Wednesday in Levelland to meet with folks in Hockley County. I shared about my work as Chairman of the House State Affairs Committee, where we saw more than 700 bills last session. State Affairs covers some of the biggest policy issues facing Texas, and that position gives me an opportunity to make sure the needs of our district aren't forgotten. We talked about disaster mitigation and getting resources where they’re needed, along with data centers and how we prepare for their growth while protecting our counties and private property rights. I appreciate how engaged everyone was. There were good questions and a lot for me to take back to Austin.

Our second stop yesterday was Memphis, and we had a good crowd come out for the Hall County town hall. Thank you to the Memphis Public Library for the warm welcome and for giving us a place to meet. We talked about some of the issues already getting a lot of attention ahead of the 90th Legislature, including property taxes, appraisal reform and data centers. I live in this district, too, and I want what’s best for the communities we share. I’ll be addressing the issues that affect all of us in the 90th Legislature, and I want to hear what you have to say as we prepare for it. Thank you, Hall County, for coming out and being part of the conversation.

We kicked off today’s town halls in Donley County with a fantastic group at Clarendon College. I spent time talking about what the Legislature is constitutionally required to do at the beginning of each session, what my day-to-day work in Austin looks like and how an idea actually makes its way through the bill process. We were also joined by a sharp-dressed group of Clarendon College students. I’m glad they took the time to come learn firsthand how the Texas Legislature works. We finished with questions from folks in the room and a chance to talk about some of their concerns. Thank you, Donley County, for starting the day with us.

Next stop tomorrow is Plains for our Yoakum County town hall. We’ll meet from 11am-12pm at the Plains State Bank Event Center, 601 9th Street. These conversations help me know what people across District 88 are seeing at home and what needs our attention in the 90th Legislature. I hope you’ll join me.
