The bomb that kill’s you isn’t the one that you see, it’s the one that you don’t.
I worked on an incredibly busy EOD team in Afghanistan. We would run multiple IEDs a day, often bouncing around our area of operations multiple times in a day.
You get to learn the land pretty well after a while and gain an understanding of what enemy cells own what area. For example, If we went east, it was command-detonated IEDs. If we went south it was pressure plates. If we went north it was cell phones, etc.
We had been to the same area multiple times for pressure plates, when we got a call about an unburied pressure plate on the road. Pretty uncommon, since the whole purpose is to hide the bomb from people so that they don’t see it.
When we got on scene, we parked in a new area. I could see where we had parked a couple of days prior, next to a steep embankment. After spending sometime on the suspect device with the robot, I put on the bombsuit and went down range. The pressure plate on top of the road wasn’t connected to anything.
We then investigated where we had parked a couple of days prior. Sure enough there was a large explosive charge in the ground…meant for me.
I leaned a lot that day. Mainly that I was being watched and had to continue to change up what I was doing; which I did.

They, in fact, came to our aid after we were attacked on 9/11. So yes.
Replying to @BernardGoldberg
So, Ukraine is coming to our aid if we are attacked? Do you really believe that?
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Ukraine did provide military support to the US following the 9/11 attacks, with over 5,000 troops serving in Iraq as the third-largest coalition contingent and contributions to Afghanistan operations.

Vance went to Yale Law. He married an Indian immigrant. He has four biracial children. He was raised by a grandma who supported gay rights (in 1992). Both of his in-laws are college professors who live in California. He was a Lincoln Republican who likened Trump to Hitler.
Now he's what ever this is. And the depressing part? I think he's sincere. He melted his own brain.

1. Not sure when a new, on-the-record rape allegation against a sitting president isn’t considered news — especially considering Trump was found liable by a jury in a similar case — but it was ignored by most mainstream media outlets

Do you remember watching this one every Halloween?
On this day in 1966, It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown premiered on CBS.
It was only the third Peanuts special — and it grabbed 49 percent of the TV audience.
Charlie Brown got a rock at every house.
Snoopy flew as the World War I Flying Ace against the Red Baron.
Sixty years on, Linus still hasn't given up hope.
Has any TV show ever made a better holiday special than this?

Him and his friends bought the .si domains a few months ago.
Now they’re trying to cash in.
Hope this helps.
I have no idea why renaming AI is so bizarrely important to Trump. Nobody cares about the name he chose. Nobody is using it or will use it. And it’s not even technically accurate because “super intelligence” already had an agreed upon, widely adopted definition. This is the weirdest political hill to die on. It gains you nothing. Not a single ordinary American in the country, anywhere, cares deeply about making sure people say “SI” instead of “AI.” We are days away from a major election and this bullshit is the focus? Just baffling.

60 years ago today, #WaltDisney went in front of the camera for the last time.
He was there to record his part of a 24- minute film explaining his vision for the 27,000 acres of land he acquired in Central Florida.
The land would eventually become #WaltDisneyWorld.

“My parents died years ago. I was very close to them. I still miss them terribly. I know I always will. I long to believe that their essence, their personalities, what I loved so much about them, are - really and truly - still in existence somewhere. I wouldn't ask very much, just five or ten minutes a year, say, to tell them about their grandchildren, to catch them up on the latest news, to remind them that I love them.
There's a part of me - no matter how childish it sounds - that wonders how they are. "Is everything all right?" I want to ask. The last words I found myself saying to my father, at the moment of his death, were "Take care."
Sometimes I dream that I'm talking to my parents, and suddenly - still immersed in the dreamwork - I'm seized by the overpowering realization that they didn't really die, that it's all been some kind of horrible mistake.
Why, here they are, alive and well, my father making wry jokes, my mother earnestly advising me to wear a muffler because the weather is chilly. When I wake up I go through an abbreviated process of mourning all over again. Plainly, there's something within me that's ready to believe in life after death. And it's not the least bit interested in whether there's any sober evidence for it.
So I don't guffaw at the woman who visits her husband's grave and chats him up every now and then, maybe on the anniversary of his death. It's not hard to understand. And if I have difficulties with the ontological status of who she's talking to, that's all right. That's not what this is about. This is about humans being human.”

This was me. I was failing out of community college because nothing about college interested me.
I joined the Army.
18 years later, the Army paid for my degree. I’m a homeowner. I learned a trade. I learned how to lead.
I’ve met the best people from around the country.
I’ve served proudly.
You have to put in the work, but if you can cut it, the military will set you up for life.

He looked calm until he said the parents are the ones slowly dying.
Graham was going on about the hospital visits, how much the kids love Captain Jack, all the pictures.
Depp sat there, then flipped it. He said the visits aren’t a gift he gives them. They’re the gift. He started talking about Great Ormond Street, how he’d already been there as a parent when his daughter was ill.
Called it the darkest time of his life, right around Sweeney Todd. Then he drew the line: the kids are strong. It’s the parents you watch break. He paused after that, like he didn’t mean to say it out loud, before adding that bringing even a small
smile is everything now.
Most celebrities treat those visits like nice press. He talked about them like the only part of the character that still feels real.

Watch this space. The people of Oleshky may be pawns in a sinister propaganda ploy. If that’s how this turns out it won’t be a humanitarian truce after all and that would be a shame.
People from Oleshky who wish to return to Ukrainian-controlled territory will first be taken to Crimea or Russia, according to FT sources‼️
At this point, we can only brace ourselves for a massive Russian propaganda campaign, legitimized on the international stage by Newsmax's presence.
Everyone must understand what kind of interviews people will give to the media under occupation, being within the grasp of the same regime that invaded their home, held them hostage and almost starved to death. And how this wave of people going to russia is going to be presented.
It is sad, very sad, but people must be saved.

This is the Oxyrhynchus Hymn, dated to the late 200s AD. It is the earliest known Christian hymn manuscript with both lyrics and musical notation. A plain English rendering of the surviving words:
“Let all creation be silent.
Let the shining stars be still.
Let the rushing winds and rivers cease.
While we sing to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,
let every power answer: Amen, amen.
Strength, praise, and glory forever to God,
the only giver of all good things. Amen, amen.”
