4/5 Markouts are one tool that can be used for measuring adverse selection. They work by plotting the theoretical PnL at various time horizons (e.g. 100ms, 500ms, 1s, etc) after your trade to see how the price moved for or against you over time.

Great thread about how funding manipulation works. As usual, lack of liquidity and wide spreads are the underlying cause. In addition, using a robust methodology for calculating the premium is pretty important also.

For those looking to understand microstructure better have a look at the binance 0 fee orderbook. Record some data. How does it react to large orders? What’s the distribution? Time of day? The zeros fees really expose the microstructure. Great learning example!
