What an amazing + historic day for #AB392. Huge thanks to all the families that made their presence know in Sacramento and all around CA, that their loved ones would not be forgotten or have been taken in vain.

Breaking news: Christa Pike, who survived a botched execution attempt in Tennessee 10 days ago, has been discharged from the hospital and moved to a rehabilitation center, according to her attorneys and the Tennessee Department of Correction. wapo.st/4dAnNCq

Counsel for Christa Pike have an emergency motion in the Tennessee trial court to preserve “all relevant physical, written, and electronic evidence” from Wednesday’s botched execution attempt.
The motion calls the Tennessee Department of Correction’s actions “incompetent and reckless” exhibiting “deliberate indifference to her basic medical needs and reckless disregard of basic medical practices and their own lethal injection protocol.”

11 of 12 Florida executions this year have been in cases in which one or more jurors voted for life. 11 of 12 had only white victims. 4 of the 5 new death sentences were non-unanimous. The defendant in the other case waived a jury. What Florida is doing is not normal.

This week, new U.S. Justice Department (DOJ) leaders reportedly instructed the Civil Rights division not to file new cases until further notice. Yesterday, I attended a federal court public hearing of an 8-year-old civil rights case, US v. Baltimore Police Department (BPD)/1
There is still much work to do. And now that we are in an era of vigilance, Baltimore residents will need to remain on watch to make sure that each and every requirement in the consent decree is met./8
To show you’re watching, attend the next public hearing at 10:00 am on April 17, 2025. If you have any concerns about policing practices in Baltimore, make your voice heard and contact the court appointed independent monitor at [email protected]./9
So grateful for @RepPressley’s tireless advocacy to #abolishthedeathpenalty. Commuting the sentences of the 40 men on federal death row now is the only irreversible action @POTUS can take to prevent the next administration from executing these men. #CommuteTheRow – at Washington, DC
State-sanctioned murder is not justice.
It is not a deterrent to crime.
It has not repaired societal ills.
It has not made our society any safer.
@POTUS must use his clemency power to commute the sentences of the 40 people on death row & re-sentence them to a prison term.

It is so important that 1,500 people were given a second chance yesterday, and I hope many others will before January 20th.
President Biden's commutations are a remarkable effort to address injustice and promote rehabilitation, and yet we remain at a critical inflection point where thousands of people who would have shorter sentences under today’s laws are still confined.

Today I was arrested for the first time alongside my comrades with @genderlib4all. Bathroom bans are bullshit and Democrats need to grow a spine. Trans lives are on the line.
15 people were arrested Thursday in the Cannon House Office Building after activists protested inside bathrooms on Capitol Hill and outside Speaker Mike Johnson’s office, @CapitolPolice tells me.
