It’s generally amusing that Obi-Wan is fully gay coded in the Revenge of the Sith novelization, but no more so than when Palpatine hints at Obi-Wan having a secret affair and Anakin straight up assumes it’s with a man. – at Washington, DC
I’ve been thinking about this after the flurry of “DS9 isn’t real Star Trek, and it ruined Gene Roddenberry’s vision” comments last week.
Thematically, ST: Picard is like a dagger to the heart of an optimistic future meanwhile DS9 made believers out of Nog & Kira.
Replying to @KyleAMathews
I’m loathe to recommend a lengthy YouTube review but this is thoughtful, entertaining, and persuasively argued.
Star Trek: Picard really does kind of ruin Star Trek.

Star Trek: Picard has made its way to my TL, and I remain utterly perplexed at basically every choice made in S3.
Just world/character-breaking choices so comically bad it reminds me of this hilariously stated point:

My dream Star Wars project would be either (1) Bail and Breha doing parallel build the rebellion work that parallel’s Mon Mothma’s work in Andor; or (2) we let Temura do Red (2010) in Star Wars as a squad of aged clone operatives on one last job.

Might be too early to tell, but I think something else might've ended on Tuesday too: The Era of Rancid Feelings.
Marked principally by leaders and political types choosing to be rigidly dogmatic, assholes, or racing to their most base instinct, feels like most people said enough!
The limit, in fact, DOES exist.
Across the country, you had a sea of happy warriors ushered into office by an electorate crying out that it just simply should not be this hard.
This isn't a kumbaya thing. It's a cut the shit and focus thing. And it's incredibly pleasing to me.

Some of the comments that are essentially “Mississippi!?!? Is he crazy” are real funny in retrospect.
WSJ: Democrats Put Money Into Mississippi’s US Senate Race
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has told donors at fundraisers and dinners in recent months to consider putting money into Mississippi.

I implore the incoming Congress to look at the last two years, at the assault on free speech that has been so shameless and transparent so as to draw bipartisan concern, and recognize that:
(a) even unsuccessful, performative appeals to censorship helped create an atmosphere in which censorship could be effectuated and must no longer be acceptable; and
(b) bipartisan work towards structural reform is more important than ever to strengthen institutional checks and resilience against those who would use the levers of government power for censorship.
Lots to come from @TechFreedom on the latter in the near future.

Thanks to the organizers. Thanks to the volunteers. When you show up at a door, on a call, reach people, you remind them that people care. Politics, at its best, is about caring for people. We need that now more than ever.

This is like the deepest breath of fresh air I’ve felt in politics since I first started seriously following it.
It took a fucking DECADE, but voters are finally understanding that MAGA/Trumpism is **CANCER**. Both for our social values and our economy.
Good fucking riddance.
