I wish to say an immense thank you to all the participants as well as our deaf colleagues at @LACAMLab who contributed in each step of the way. Without you, this project wouldn't be possible. As well a heartfelt thank you to @DCOMM_EU @MSCActions for funding this research.

I'm thrilled to share our freshly published paper with @olgacapirci and @ozyurek_a on the use of iconicity and simultaneity for efficient information encoding in LIS! It was long time coming! authors.elsevier.com/a/1b3SJ…

Our paper (wt @anitaslonimska and @olgacapirci ) showing how modality specific properties of sign languages ( in LIS) as use of iconicity &simultaneous articulators enable efficient communication ( ala @LanguageMIT ) appeared today @Cognition - btw had a very pleasent review proc

We also had a great skype presentation from @anitaslonimska follow up study to her Cognition paper: comparison of italian speakers silent gestures to italian sign language regarding role of iconicity & simultaneity (with @olgacapirci )
Thanks @DingemanseMark for this nice pitch - really the gist of that study and this message resonates in our recently in press paper in İtalian Sign Language in Cognition - use of iconicity and simultaneity for efficient coomunication with @anitaslonimska @olgacapirci

LIS signers (adults-kids) favour specific predicates over general ones (pick vs take). They favour action-based signs (hand-as-hand) over other iconic forms. This aligns with our work on silent gesture& sign learning & on importance of actions representations in manual modality
We are delighted to announce that the newest article from our lab by E. Tomasuolo, C.Bonsignori, P. Rinaldi, & V.Volterra on The representation of action in Italian Sign Language (LIS) : Cognitive Linguistics is out! degruyter.com/view/j/cogl.20…

The big re-thinking of @AdamCSchembri on the distinction between gestures and signs in SLs: we have to eleminate the G (esture) in the BSL corpus. #Eurasign

Hallo sign café participants! Please, have a look at the new section on presenters at the following website: sdslingue.unict.it/it/conten…
That's great news! We received 38 submissions for #SignCAFE1 so that's a fantastic growth in interest in cognitive and functional explorations in sign language linguistics. #SignCAFE2
Thank you to everyone who sibmitted to #signCAFE2! We received more than than 70 submissions!

It is difficult to decide who to look at. Maria Cristina Caselli from @LACAMLab talking about assessment in Italian Sign Language or Rita Sala doing a fantastic job as interpreter?
