As we continue into Fall, heavy flooding threats this week across the Southwest are a good reminder that flash flooding can happen year-round! Make sure everyone in your household knows where to go and what to do if local officials issue a flood advisory.
Arizona and South California: Heavy rain can cause dangerous flash flooding, especially in low areas and places recently affected by wildfires.

Annual maintenance activities to improve flood-risk mitigation for portions of the Los Angeles River under USACE Los Angeles District responsibility have begun Sept. 23 near the Taylor Yard in Los Angeles. The LA District maintains 22 miles of the LA River Flood Control Channel.
LA District staff and leadership from the Operational Protection Division discuss efforts to improve safety Sept. 22 atop the Whittier Narrows Dam in LA County, CA. Per federal law, USACE works with sheriff and police departments to patrol and protect its civil works projects.
