So this tree must have taken root around 1626… and just imagine what it has witnessed: the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, the partitions, the uprisings, the national awakening, WWI & independence in 1918, WWII & occupations - then finally independence in 1990… What a life! 🌳
A Lithuanian oak was named the 2026 European Tree of the Year today, putting an end to four years of Polish domination in the Eurovision-like contest.
