We're 10 months into a 3 year project to conserve & catalogue the National Union of Mineworkers archive (half is now on site & the rest is still being conserved)! We're finding some real gems in the boxes & #Coal #ArchiveAdventCalendar day seems a great time to share just a few!

An explosion at Oaks Colliery, Barnsley, killed 383 men & boys #OnThisDay in 1866 – the largest loss of life in a pit disaster in England. Two years earlier, a strike for safer conditions was broken by scab labour & evictions. 169 unrecovered bodies remain entombed at the site.
