Day 3: Little Lamp of Horrors This strange & interesting plant, er, fish, once devastated #GreatLakes fisheries, but the #SeaLamprey Control Program now stops this #invasive bloodthirsty bloom before it sprouts teeth! Thanks to Christina Contreras Stone for the idea! #Lamproween

Day 2: The Legend of Slimy Hollow Beware the Headless Horsefish of Slimy Hollow, a nonnative nightmare that latches onto #GreatLakes fish with a disc full of teeth. The #SeaLamprey Control Program keeps it from riding roughshod over fisheries! #Lamproween #invasivespecies

Day 1: Tedromyzon Lassinus #Lamproween is back & we’re starting with a mustachioed macroparasite with a motivational message. Believe in believe! Thanks to Jill Wingfield & Scott Miehls for ideas! Look for a new #lamproweenie (costumed #sealamprey) daily, then vote on #Halloween!

#DidYouKnow that when aquatic biologists scan fish with handheld PIT tag readers, they’re picking up tiny, implanted tags that reveal a fish’s ID, history, and movements? A quick beep helps track many species of fish. 🐟📡 #SciComm #DYK

Who ya gonna call? 👻 If you spot someone in a stream with what looks like a proton pack, they’re not busting ghosts—they’re electrofishing. A mild shock brings larval #sealamprey to the surface so control agents can count them & protect #GreatLakes fisheries. #DidYouKnow #DYK

#DidYouKnow parasitic sea lampreys can consume up to 2.4 pounds (1.1 kg) of #GreatLakes fish blood over 12–18 months? That’s roughly the blood volume of three 15-pound lake trout! Learn more: sealamprey.org. #InvasiveSpecies #SciComm #DYK
