Latest update on the Scottish Rape Crisis Alliance ⬇️ Male violence against women & girls has wide reaching impact and is everyone's problem. Inaction is not an option.
This week, the founding members of SRCA have written to the new Cabinet Secretary for Justice, Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice and Housing, the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Care, Minister for Equalities and International Development, and the Minister for Victims and Community Safety to introduce ourselves and present a factsheet summarising our mission, commitment, and early asks. In addition, we have written to all local MSPs representing constituents in the four founding members' geographical areas. We look forward to taking forward the much-needed conversations with the new parliament, on behalf of the women and girls who live under the threat or experience of rape and sexual abuse in the West of Scotland. Read the factsheet here: isu.pub/7rcxUgd

I'm trying to figure out how the BBC can write a whole article about young people, domestic violence, extreme porn and choking and NOT mention, once, that boys tend to be the perpetrators. It doesn't protect boys. If we can't face it, we can't fix it. bbc.com/news/articles/c8e82p…

Men - if you see this, please sign and share. Strangulation (or ‘choking’, in porn-speak) is usually male hands on female throats. It’s a hugely sexed activity. When it’s female hands on male throats the risk is hugely less - biology matters, as ever. So no bullshit excuses.
Percentage of women who've signed our petition vs. men. Very few men shared the petition too. Strangulation is a gendered issue. Link to petition here: change.org/p/stop-the-bbc-ai… It contains info about the risks of strangulation. Please share.

We were so grateful to Mia for coming to our CSE themed AGM last year; sharing her perspective so powerfully and her passion in the eradication of exploitation of women & girls. Her book is a must-read #BelieveSurvivors
ANY GIRL by Mia Döring: ‘Getting paid to please, to endure, to put up with, not to enjoy’ ‘Any Girl’, Mia Döring’s memoir of sexual exploitation and recovery is a massive contribution to the understanding of the reality of the sex industry. It is not a simple misery memoir that lists all the many ways in which she was hurt. It is something much more ambitious and demanding. It isn’t sympathy she wants from us – but rather for us to see the truth in all its cruelty and to resolve to take action to bring about change. We cannot recommend it highly enough. “Young women and girls are being conditioned to absorb their own dehumanisation into their sexuality and we are celebrating it.” Link to our review in the next tweet.

A direct result of recent hard work and efforts of Claudia & the @RCCGlasgow team: a small increment to government funding has been announced, helping so many organisations who have had to close or pause services recently. Survivors shouldn't have to put their lives on hold
It’s been incredibly difficult over the least few weeks as we at @RCCGlasgow made impossible decisions, like closing waiting lists. It has been heartbreaking, and quite simply; we should never have been in that position. Throughout it all, my team and others across our sector have kept survivors front of mind. They are why we exist. It is why we show up, each and every day. We have sought to secure better for our vital services and, importantly, survivors who need us more than ever. The proposed standstill level for DES was issued to us and others recently. This would have brought our essential services @RCCGlasgow to a long term standstill. Whilst conversations are still ongoing with SG and officials, we welcome the DES uplift of 5% (that has now been secured for all funded orgs in the VAWG sector and announced in today’s budget), as a result of efforts made. We will never stop doing what is needed to support women and girls, and offer them the help they deserve. I want to thank all the women, men, organisations and others that have helped us mobilise and push for better in this past few weeks. Your support, your shared voices, your compassion and hope for better for our women and girls is profound. You may never know the direct impact it has made, but please know that we are eternally grateful with each and every survivor we support. Our priority is, and always will be, supporting survivors. We will do everything in our power to ensure that they continue to have access to expert support and advocacy.
