BREAKING: ETH drops about 5% in under an hour, BTC slips under $77K
ETH fell from about $2,388 at 2:30 PM UK to about $2,264 at 3:25 PM UK on Coinbase, about 5.2% down. It's now about $2,278.
BTC fell from about $79,544 to about $76,057 over the same stretch, about 4.4% down. It's now about $76,350.
Cause: a risk-off wave after the US open. US stocks reportedly lost about $1T in value (Nvidia down 3 to 4%, AMD about 10%, Tesla about 6%), and crypto followed.
Leverage flush: about $400M of crypto long bets were reportedly wiped out in 60 minutes (Watcher Guru, 3:19 PM UK).
Big wallets: 1,417 BTC (about $109M) moved into Coinbase Institutional at 3:15 PM UK, and 1,290 BTC (about $99M) moved out at 3:29 PM UK (Whale Alert).
Status: this is a market move, not a hack. No exchange halts, and USDT and USDC are holding their $1 peg.
Safety tip: go easy on leverage while it's this choppy, use stop losses, and don't panic sell into a liquidation wick.

UPDATE: Binance says withdrawals are on track to return within about 40 hours.
- Co-CEO Richard Teng posted a video update at 2:32 PM UK, and Binance's official account shared it.
- Withdrawals stay paused while Binance rebuilds and retests its whole infrastructure. Teng says Binance is "very hopeful" users can withdraw before the Sunday deadline, and it's on track for within 40 hours, which is about Sunday morning UK.
- Teng explained how the attack worked. The attacker used EIP-7702 delegation to get onchain approval over a hot wallet, and that step bypassed Binance's normal approval controls. There were more breach points beyond the compromised laptop, and the attack tools deleted themselves and their traces as they ran.
- Binance has set aside $6.34B of company funds to cover losses, and $5B of it is already held in the affected tokens (USDT, USDC, BTC, ETH, BNB and others). It's buying the rest through the market and OTC desks.
- Teng says only Binance's own hot wallet was hit and customer funds were never touched. A full proof of reserves report is targeted for Monday, possibly with an early look before then.
- Binance still hasn't published an official loss figure. Onchain trackers put it at about $6.3B.
- Market at 2:48 PM UK: BTC about $76,900 (down 5.2% in 24h), ETH about $2,231 (down 4.7%), BNB about $697 (down 6.7%), with no 5% hourly move.
- Safety tip: ignore "withdrawals are open" links and DMs. Only trust Binance's official app and the @binance account, and never enter your seed phrase or 2FA codes anywhere.

- The Fed held at 3.75β4.00%, with 2 dissenters wanting a hike.
- Whales and ETFs are still buying the dip.

β’ Cronos ran its first monthly CRO buyback and burn, removing about 1.79M CRO worth about $92K (Cronos, via X reports).

UPDATE: Binance hot wallet hack, about $5.6B estimated and withdrawals disrupted.
- What happened: funds began draining from Binance hot wallets, including Binance 14, at about 8:24 PM UK. They went to fresh attacker wallets on Ethereum, Bitcoin and Tron. PeckShield now calls it a "Confirmed hack," and Whale Alert tags the outflows "Binance Hack 2026."
- Amounts: onchain trackers now estimate about $5.6B across 67 assets, up from early estimates of about $2.5B, but the total is still unconfirmed. Big moves keep coming out of the hack wallets, including about 57.9K ETH (about $133M) and about $47M in UNI.
- Freezes: Tether froze over 1.567B USDT (Paolo Ardoino), and Circle has now confirmed it froze over 800M USDC, working with law enforcement (Jeremy Allaire). Whale Alert counts about $2.37B in stablecoins frozen within 40 minutes. The stolen BTC and much of the ETH are not frozen.
- Official status: Binance still hasn't confirmed a hack. It says it's investigating a potential security issue and that user funds are SAFU. At 9:48 PM UK, Binance said some users are having crypto withdrawal issues due to a "technical error" and that the team is restoring them. CZ says it "does look like a hack" and expects users to be fully covered.
- Market: BTC about $79,128 (-2.7% in 24h), ETH about $2,274 (-3.7%), BNB about $705 (-6.9%), per CoinGecko at about 9:52 PM UK
- User impact: some withdrawals are delayed or stuck. There's no official word yet on losses to customer balances.
- Stay safe: fake "Binance refund" and "claim" links will spike, so trust only @binance and the Binance app. Hold off on deposits to Binance until withdrawals are fully restored.

Binance has broken its silence but still hasn't confirmed a hack. As of about 9:30 PM UK time:
At 9:24 PM, Binance said it's "actively investigating" a "potential security issue" and warned users to ignore unofficial links and messages.
At 9:15 PM, CZ said "User funds are safe! It does look like a hack." He no longer runs Binance, but said that as a shareholder he expects all user funds to be fully covered. There's no official SAFU announcement yet.
Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino says Tether has now frozen more than $1.567B USDT.
The about $823M Circle USDC freeze is still only flagged by Whale Alert, with nothing from Circle itself.
There's no official withdrawal pause, but some users report failed withdrawals and route trackers show outages on AVAX, Optimism and Solana withdrawals.
Losses are still about $2B+ on Ethereum alone and about $2.5B to $2.77B across chains. The attacker has parked about 195,460 ETH at a fresh address, and no new Tornado Cash deposits have been confirmed.
Prices are dropping: BNB is about $712, down about 6% in the hour. BTC is about $78,800 (-2%) and ETH about $2,285 (-3%) (CoinDesk).
LIVE ALERT Β· Thu Oct 29: Suspected Binance hot wallet drain, about $2.5B+
- Billions moved out of Binance hot wallets tonight. Binance has NOT confirmed a hack yet, and @binance, CZ and Richard Teng are silent as of about 9:15 PM UK time.
- At about 8:24 PM UK time, a Tornado Cash-funded address swept the "Binance 14" hot wallet for about 167,464 ETH (about $379M), about 1.6B USDT and 62 other tokens. "Binance 16" then sent another 28,005 ETH (Etherscan).
- Etherscan has labeled the receiving address "Binance Hot Wallet Exploiter."
- Estimates put the total at about $2.5B on Ethereum and about $2.77B across chains (Walter Bloomberg, Whale Alert).
- Issuers are already freezing funds. Tether froze about $971M and about $313M in USDT (Whale Alert), and Circle reportedly froze about $823M in USDC (WatcherGuru, less firmly confirmed).
- An early technical read points to an EIP-7702 wallet takeover followed by a batch sweep. That's analyst speculation so far.
- Still unknown: whether customer funds are hit, whether SAFU covers losses, and whether withdrawals are paused.
- Stay safe: hold off on moving funds through Binance until it posts an official statement, and ignore anyone offering "refund" or "claim" links.
